How to make email flows work with a custom email domain?

I haven’t found this question elsewhere in the Community. Apologies if it’s here and I didn’t see it. This is my question:

I have a custom domain hosted by Shopify. I set up email through a third-party provider with that custom domain. It’s working fine.

My problem is that I can’t get Klaviyo’s emails to work through it. Do I need to do anything with the DNS setting in Shopify? Do I need to do anything with the Shopify email app?

Thank you! I really appreciate your help.

Hey @Rick , this sounds like a DNS setup issue. To get Klaviyo emails working with your custom domain, you’ll need to set up a branded sending domain in Klaviyo.

This involves updating your DNS settings to include records Klaviyo generates. These records authenticate your domain for email sending and remove the “via klaviyomail.com” message. Here’s a detailed guide that walks you through the setup: Set up a Branded Sending Domain.

Quick question: are you looking to send emails directly through Klaviyo using your domain, or are you trying to trigger an event from Klaviyo that sends emails via your other third-party provider? If it’s the latter, that might require a different integration setup.

Let me know, and I’d be happy to point you in the right direction!

Thank you, Mike! This is very helpful. I am trying to send directly through Klaviyo. I will watch the video you linked to in a bit, but at a glance I think it’s just what I was looking for. I guess this is a case of me not knowing what search terms to use to find the answer.
