What happens to a suppressed profile when it is unsuppressed?

When a suppressed profile is unsuppressed, will it continue to go through any flows it was in previously?

Thanks!

Hi @B B - thank you for reaching out to the Klaviyo community!

If someone with a suppressed profile is actively moving through a flow and a message is attempted, Klaviyo will automatically skip them for that message, however they will keep moving through the remaining flow steps and actions.

As they continue to move forward in the flow towards the future messages, Klaviyo will continue to skip them on each message attempt due to their suppressed status, but if they happen to be unsuppressed before the next message attempt in the flow is made, they would receive the next message.

Here is an example from a live account (sorry have to black out for privacy, but I promise this is the same profile/email user!):

  • This @gmail address was skipped today in email #1 of this flow due to the ‘person suppressed’ reason.

  • However when you click to email #2 of this flow and look at the list of recipients who are in the ‘waiting’ step, you see this same email is still there in the ‘waiting’ phase. So if this profile happens to be unsuppressed during the waiting period and before email #2 in the flow is attempted, they will receive email #2 even though they were skipped for #1.

Klaviyo automatically excludes all suppressed profiles from email sends. This means that, even if you try to send a campaign or flow email to suppressed profiles, Klaviyo will automatically ensure that these intended recipients are skipped. For flow emails, under Recipient Activity > Other you will find a Skipped: Person Suppressed count that signals how many people didn't receive the email because they are suppressed in your account.

Hopefully this answers your question!

Hi there - thanks for your question. When a suppressed profile is unsuppressed in Klaviyo, it does not automatically re-enter any previous flows it was in before suppression. Here’s how it works:

1. The Profile Becomes Eligible for Future Emails & Flows

  • Once unsuppressed, the profile can start receiving emails again.
  • However, it won’t automatically resume flows it was previously in.

2. It Will NOT Resume Previous Flows

  • If the profile was in the middle of a flow before suppression, it will not continue where it left off.
  • Klaviyo treats the suppression as an exit event from active flows.

3. How to Re-Enroll the Profile in a Flow?

  • If you need the profile to go back into a flow, you have to manually re-trigger the flow by:
    • Manually adding them to the segment that triggers the flow.
    • Triggering the event again (e.g., if it was an event-based flow).
    • Creating a new segment to capture unsuppressed users and adding them to a new flow.

4. What About Past Campaigns?

  • Unsuppressed users will not retroactively receive emails from past campaigns.
  • They will only be eligible for new campaigns moving forward.

If you have any additional questions please let me know!

@zacfromson thanks for your response! If it’s a list-triggered flow, how can I re-enroll them? If I recall correctly, a profile can only go through a list-triggered flow once.

@emilytarvin thanks for your response! It appears that you are correct as I just checked a few profiles that were suppressed and unsuppressed and they all have scheduled messages for the flow they were in before being suppressed.

What a relief!

@B B No problem, and so happy to hear that you are seeing this in your account! I just went into my reply above and added 2 screen shots of a live account so you could see this visually as well, but you beat me to the punch in your account :)
