I have a google tag manager server side container sending events to Klaviyo. The format I have for ecommerce purchases are in the format of a GA4 purchase event, not in the format that klaviyo uses for “Placed Order” event.

Is there any way within klaviyo to treat these events as Placed Order events? Or do I need to transform the data in GTM before sending to klaviyo?

I think you may miss out on a number of the features (e.g. clv, predictive analytics, segmenting on aggregate value, etc) that we provide for “Placed Order” events if these are not in the format we recommend in this guide:
https://developers.klaviyo.com/en/docs/guide_to_integrating_a_platform_without_a_pre_built_klaviyo_integration#placed-order

Probably better to transform these first vs. to send over as-is from GA4
