Emails going to spam in Hotmail

Hi @ChelseaC98,I understand how frustrating deliverability issues can be. @kaila.lawrence has put across some great points.But, let me tell you - Hotmail (Microsoft) deliverability issues are something not unusual. It happens with everyone and You’re not alone in this!As a matter of fact, Microsoft has a complex way of determining email as a wanted vs unwanted one. However, principles of a great email marketing practices still applies to Microsoft as well as Gmail & Yahoo.If I may ask -What kind of campaigns are you sending to which audience? Whats your daily volume to Microsoft (Hotmail) audience? How are you currently monitoring Hotmail deliverability, since all your emails are landing into junk? What number Klaviyo is reporting for Hotmail/Microsoft domains? Is your sending domain properly authenticated and aligned?Let me know if you have any questions.Regards Mohsin

Is there a way to see sources of spam spikes in Google Postmaster?

Hi @justinepnk ,Good question! But, Google doesn’t share the user level spam data with anyone. No ESP or tool can give you Gmail specific spam data.It looks like in GPT, spam complaints are consistently high and should be controlled (go below 0.1% on an average) before it damages the reputation & deliverability further.So, I’d strongly suggest you to start looking at your segmentation definition and tightening up the engagement criteria across all your targeting segments. Plus, make sure you have a strong content strategy to create relevant content for your segments and keep monitoring your KPIs closely.Lastly, check your email acquisition & housekeeping efforts to make sure you are collecting optin users from your website/app and also cleaning up your email list with inactive/dormant users.Here’s a resource that I have written in the community that you can checkout - Let me know if you have any questions. My sending domain shows "via" another domain

Great inputs by @David To !Hi @mikepk14, here’s what should you do:I assume since these are 2 different companies, you must have 2 separate KL accounts with separate sending domains setup. Hi @bmornings The branded sending domain (aka SPF/Return Path domain) should be a sub-domain like send.example.com. I don’t think so send.mail.example.com would work.Just FYI - this is how your domain structure on Klaviyo should look like in its simplest form:FROM domain: example.comBranded sending domain (SPF/Return-Path domain): send.example.comDKIM: send.example.comDMARC: example.com Regards,Mohsin

Recently moved to Klaviyo from Flodesk. Open rate of first email is down 40-50%

Hi Christina,Welcome to the community! I understand how overwhelming and frustrating these deliverability issues can be.Such deliverability fluctuations are bound to happen during initial migration days as you are building up the reputation with ISPs like Gmail. You must not get disappointed, have patience, and keep sending to your most engaged audience in low & slow manner (I.e. scale up your email volumes gradually). Please note, building up reputation and achieve better deliverability at Gmail takes 4-5 weeks depending upon your audience engagement, campaign performance and ISP feedback.Few more tips to make sure you have the checklist in place-Have you suppressed all the blacklisted data (bounces, unsubscribe, spam complaints etc.) from Flodesk on Klaviyo? Have you created a 30 days warmup strategy plan? - segment, content, frequency etc. Have you setup your Postmaster for FROM domain to monitor domain/IP reputation health? Klaviyo not registering Gmail spam complaints?

Hi Aleksandar,Gmail does not share user level spam complaints data with any ESP. That’s why, you aren’t able to see the data in the dashboards.However, if you’re seeing a spike in the spam complaints in the GPT then it is required for you to look at your segment definition or content relevancy and frequency. DKIM Shared Domain

Great question Ludvig!To your first question, it depends on 2 factors - 1) Reputation health of your shared domain 2) Kind of content you’re sending from that domain.What are you sending from that shared domain currently? However, multiple DKIM signatures on a sending domain is allowed as per DMARC standards, provided domains in the header are aligned.I’d suggest having a separate sending domain exclusively for Klaviyo would be a better choice and it makes the setup cleaner and easy to manage.Let me know if that helps or you’ve any further questions.RegardsMohsin

List-unsubscribe header is definitely a good practice and it’s something an ESP has to do to ensure the unsubscribe process is easier for recipients to opt out rather than letting them to hit the report as spam button.As a sender, you should also place the unsubscribe link prominently in the footer and make sure you also keep the process simpler for users who wants to opt out.Just FYI - List Unsubscribe is primarily applicable for commercial emails but when it comes to transactional emails, ESP must define and review the transactional email content and can define a accordingly in the list unsubscribe header not to show list unsubscribe header on transactional emails.Let me know if you have any questions further.RegardsMohsin

@pwieland 5k per day is the limit that’ll apply to commercial emails. Also, make sure, you have DMARC with p=quarantine enabled and domains are aligned. @pwieland : You can go to ‘Show Original’ in any email in Gmail and when you open the complete header, search and find with the List-Unsubscribe keyword. You should be able to locate then.What kind of transactional emails are you referring to? Probably, you can verify how are you defining the transactional emails and should be carefully reviewed. Any sort of promotional content hidden into transactional emails (although many senders try to play smart here) can raise flags to mailbox providers and shall be treated equivalent to commercial emails.If you are referring to transactional emails like password reset, shipping notification, account creation, invoice, etc., you wouldn’t require unsubscribe link (although you can keep it in the content if you may like but it’s not necessary). Transactional emails are time sensitive emails and carries important information, unlike commercial/promotional emails.Hope that clarifies the question.RegardsMohsin

Hi @Marania When you say that you took control of an online recently from previous owner, did you mean - 1) moving the store on to a new top level website domain or it’s the same TLD? 2) Using the same sending domains on new Klaviyo account or created a new sending domain setup.In either scenario, when you go through any migration phase (from deliverability perspective), it’s necessary to establish the sending reputation with mailbox providers by following email best practices. I’m not sure whether the migration is done completely and you have set the expectations with the list once you have taken control.- Have you gone through any warmup & rampup exercise while ensuring you have suppressed the blacklisted data on Klaviyo account?- Was there any spike in negative KPIs like spam complaints, bounces, or unsubscribe?- What is your domain/IP reputation health?- Have you tried checking where your emails are landing - in inbox or spam?Last but not least, fluctuations in open can happen

Great question @pwieland!As clearly defined by Gmail & Yahoo, the new changes are going to be applicable for bulk senders (anyone who’s sending commercial emails).Transactional emails are important emails and non commercial in nature. It doesn’t necessarily require unsubscribe links unlike commercial emails.To your second question, one click unsubscribe is majorly required for every ESP (you can check and verify the same in your email headers by looking List-Unsubscribe header) but it’s also recommended to have a prominent unsubscribe link in the email content as well!Hope this clarifies the doubt. Hi @Brentvs Thank you for your question.Just to set the expectations right - Its common to see such performance fluctuations while you’re in a process of establishing reputation. You may expect such performance drops or blocks during the warmup as mailbox providers would factor in lot of historic data points, your sending practices, etc. before trusting your Mail stream but eventually it’ll happen over a period of time.With limited understanding about your email programs and business, I can only recommend you to stick to the email best practices, focus on engaged audience and continue sending good emails to your audience for maintaining high engagement.However, to better understand the situation, can you help provide some more context -What’s the difference size in open rates currently vs. previously? That’s how you’ll ensure your subscribers remember you as long as you know them well as deliver the relevant content each time. Monitor your KPIs and adjust your targeting accordingly. Warming up a new account with a monthly news letter

Hi @loubiblu , you may not require a standard warmup process with just 350 email subscribers. However, if you have ever sent emails from MailerLite, you can start with clickers and openers atleast once a week and remaining audience in separate batches during the week, if that makes sense.Also, migrate and suppress any bounces, unsubscribes, spam complaint users generated on ML.Since, list size is small, I’d suggest you to focus on building and growing your email list and make sure you have your list hygiene processes in place. Will changing the sender email (same domain) negatively impact deliverability?

Hi @blissy As long as you’re not changing the sending domain, changing the sender email address on the same domain won’t have any impact on deliverability unless your recipients are expecting emails from John and now they are getting from Jill and they started reporting spam, if that makes sense.RegardsMohsin

Missed responding back to you.So, it totally depends on your business requirements and how you’d like to manage and run your email programs if you have right resources to make campaign processes easier.If it makes your job simpler to keep everything under one Klaviyo account; and, you can flow right profile attributes and Shopify events (native and custom), easily tag and do better segmentation to identify profiles basis their intent, purchase and engagement behaviour and so on… then go for it!Otherwise, have multiple Klaviyo accounts and keep messaging on separate sender domains to manage your email programs better.Let me know if it makes sense or still got questions.Regards,Mohsin

How do you know if emails are going into spam?

Hey @gemmatoys ,How’d you come to know that your emails are landing into your customer’s inbox? Did you notice a drop in your engagement metric - drop in opens, increase in bounces or spam complaints? Is the issue happening across all mailbox providers or specific one? Have you tried testing on some sample test ids (excluding the one that you use frequently)? Smart Send Time: Effectiveness Considering Inflated Open Rates?

@Brianna - Smart send time factors primarily on open rates. Here’s a great article written by Klaviyo data scientist (I believe 😎) - https://klaviyo.tech/why-does-klaviyos-smart-send-time-optimize-for-open-rates-4259beb49455?gi=5fc2411c3ec5And when we talk about MPP, it’s not just Apple users (iCloud domains) but it also include users who have setup their Gmail or Microsoft accounts within Apple Mail environment. So, relying on just open rates would not be helpful, you’d need to look beyond opens and focus on clicks / click to open rates for measuring email performance.However, AFAIK, when Apple email clients generate false opens and opens at times that don't match actual read times, smart sending IMO will become less accurate and less effective unless Klaviyo inculcate secondary engagement metrics like clicks or conversions and create a weighted analysis basis whole engagement. I can further deep dive into this and get back to you. 😐 (I assume smart send algorithms will use clicks a
