Overwrite event data?

So, yes, #1 you need to rethink how you are thinking about Klaviyo as a data storage device.  It is not a typical database where you insert/update/delete records, at least on the event side.  But the fact that there is old erroneous data isn’t important as you can make a flow that ignores these.#2 if the even name is wrong just resubmit using the right event name.  You can also contact Klaviyo CS and request that all data under a certain event name is wiped out.  If the data in the event is wrong just resubmit the events with the right data and have your flows/reports ignore any event before the second import.

Merge Bug with Supressed Profile

Thanks.  Can you or have you put in a feature request for this scenario?  Seems like there should be some logic around if the bounce suppression gets carried over to a profile that is interacting with emails.

Can Klaviyo variables have multiple lines?

I know this has been “Answered” but the answer is not “Klaviyo can’t do this” - the questions is why are you trying to submit a multiple line record?  Typically in any database structure the number of lines is not consequential as line breaks are human-readable issues not data storage issues.If you are trying to submit multiple values in a custom data field then Klaviyo can ABSOLUTELY do this - just submit the multiple values as a JSON array.   Klaviyo’s segmenting supports this and all the values you submit in the array will populate in the “Dimensions Value” field.  On your front end just display each JSON array item in a new line.

Integrate 'Visited Website' Event

Klaviyo being a non-relational database means it doesn’t matter what you call it.  Klaviyo doesn’t care, there is no “column” for this event and there is no right answer.  Call it whatever you want.99% of Klaviyo’s documentation and the use of “Active On Site” metric has to do with Klaviyo’s integration with Shopify.  So “active on site” becomes sort of a colloquial default if you will.  Since you are doing a custom integration you can call it whatever you want.  Using Active on Site may make some of the reports auto populate, but you can make reports for whatever event name you want to.Whatever you choose be sure you are CONSISTENT in your event name.

My original reply was somewhat correct it seems.  Take a look at this page:https://developers.klaviyo.com/en/reference/create_profileIf you use a phone number as the profile identifier and SMS is not set up in the Klaviyo account, you'll need to include at least one other identifier attribute (emailor external_id) in addition to the phone_number attribute for the API call to work. This seems to be your exact situation - an event call to a profile which has not yet had SMS set up yet which triggers the create profile requirement.  In that case it seems that you *do* need an external identifier.Might I suggest trying to submit the event with the external_id set to “ID[phone_numbner]” just to see it accepts this?

Yes, this is expected behavior.  For an event to be recorded there must either be an ‘email’ or ‘id’ submitted with it, regardless if you are intended to use SMS only.

I know you’re going to read this and say “No, I know that isn’t the problem” but here we go:Most of the CORS issues are with SSL certificate issues.  Since this just ‘started happening’ without any code or API changes then an old expiring SSL cert could explain it.  If you have a certificate for the main subdomain but it isn’t configured for base or wildcard, or if there is an expired certificate on an account that is configured for the base URL.  I know “I’ve checked this 1,000 times” but just do it again and remove any expired certificates, see if it changes things….

Thanks @cdetdi ! Yes, we have two full-time developers. I was doing preliminary research on Klaviyo’s capabilities and will brings this to our devs. I appreciate your response! Your devs will (should) really enjoy deploying Klaviyo.  After working with other solutions in this space, our team was over the moon happy with the sway to Klaviyo.

Klaviyo for marketplaces advice?

Since this is the developer group I’m assuming you have the development capability to create and submit custom events.@jlincoln your use case is no problem for Klaviyo, you just need to send an event with the proper information, or send two events.  Since this is technically two events (the vendor ‘sells’ and the buyer ‘buys’) it makes sense that you would send two events.  You then have two different flows that trigger off the different events.Most of my replies on this forum surround the idea that Klaviyo is a NoSQL solution, so the usual understanding of ‘an order is X’ doesn’t apply.  An ‘order’ is nothing special in Klaviyo, it is just an event with the label ‘order’ (or whatever you specified). There is no order ‘class’ or special structure, you just send whatever data you want and call it whatever you want.  You can send whatever number of events you want, too (we send 5 events when an order is placed, for example).

Abandoned Carts Email -- How to prevent sending the email if the Cart is deleted?

What if  the user starts checkout, the event is emitted, but then the user goes back for whatever reason and removes/adds an item to then once again start checkout. This would create 2 Started Checkout events linking to the same cart but with different set of items. There is no way to sort of update the event in Klaviyo. The flow would treat it like the user visited the store twice and would send 2 abandoned cart emails. To handle this scenario, you can limit how often a profile enters the flow. https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002779411-How-to-create-an-abandoned-cart-flow Another flow filter you might want to add is Hasn't been in flow in the last X days. This will prevent those who recently received your abandoned cart messages from receiving them again within the specified timeframe.  Click on the trigger. Choose Flow Filters. Click the Add a Flow Filter button. Choose Has not been in this flow. Select hours, days, or weeks. Type the amount of time

Abandoned Carts Email -- How to prevent sending the email if the Cart is deleted?

While there is a solution to this, I'm curious as to WHY you have this problem.  Best practice for abandoned cart emails are 1-2 days MAX.  If you are emailing customers weeks afterwards I think you have a scheduling problem not a technical problem.  Keeping your customers carts makes sense for 30-60 days what have you, but you should be sending the abandoned cart email WAY earlier.  Once the abandoned cart email is sent they’ve completed the flow so customer won’t receive any more emails unless you have specified that they do.As for the technical side, one big adjustment our team needed to make was conceptually understanding how Klaviyo worked.  We came from a solution that was very structured - carts, orders etc. Klaviyo has none of this structure.  You create a cart by creating an event that you’ve identified as a cart event.  You then can submit whatever data you need inside that event.  So the sky is the limit for whatever you want to do there.

List of undocumented API endpoints

Generally speaking I have found that the API is much more flexible than the docs suggest i.e. the documentation is underdeveloped.  This is true for the template documentation as well.  I’ve been able to get some unique solutions built using the ‘if this works, I wonder if that works’ method.  I personally detest writing documentation, so I’m hesitant to criticize, but the documentation does a disservice to the API.

Maybe.If you specify $id in your call it will show the field but if you don’t specify the $id it will not show it even though it got auto assigned.  The behavior isn’t consistent.  You also may find yourself running into the duplicate profile issue.

SMS subscription is handled by list API not profile API.  You need to submit $consent AND list API endpoint.

Registering SMS Only contacts with the track API

I want to reemphasize the concept that $consent does NOT result in a SMS subscription.  I ran into the same frustrations until I realized this.  SMS consent is triggered via LIST subscription, not profile data.  I now make two calls when SMS is subscribed too: profile and list.  As for no profiles appearing I think you need one “anchor” property: either email or unique ID.  Your data packet doesn’t have either. Try submitting the phone number with an $id and see if Klaviyo will accept it.

Is it possible to have a Profile ID be used as a Barcode?

It is worth mentioning that @cdetdi’s idea could potentially work, thanks for jumping into this conversation! As this is not a workaround that has been heavily investigated or validated at present,I’d encourage @cdetdi to run a test for it and let us know how it goes! It would be incredible to find a quick and suitable workaround for this option as this would be a very interesting use for coupon codes. Testing result mixed but ultimate failure.Basic test manually entering base64 image into custom field worked fine in Klaviyo.  Put into template and ran previews.Trouble is that Base64 images are handled differently depending on email client - some are fine but, notably, gmail is finicky (read: doesn’t work).  So there will need to be a translation for bas64 into an image format somewhere for GMAIL users.@Taylor Tarpley peraps feature request to allow for bas64 data to be translated into png on send.

This is in contrast to “What someone has done, skip anyone who has been in this flow in the last X-Timeframe” option which would ignore the ‘hat’ cart addition and send the T-shirt email 4 hours after the T-shirt add.  (this did not make sense to us in this use case)

  This screenshot, however lets say the added to cart, they would be entered into the flow. The first item they entered was a T shirt. So before 4 hours was up, lets say they added a hat to the cart. Would then the flow restart and then send the flow for the hat 4 hours later? Or would it not even fire the flow at all since it hit the filter that it added to cart 1 time since starting the flow, not zero times? @David To  Did you get anywhere with this @flogrown.trevor ?  That is the behavior that we experience in our live deployment.  The ‘hat’ resets the flow for that user, they do not get a email about the shirt and the email they get about the hat is 4 hours after the ‘hat’ add.  That is in our view the expected and ideal behavior - we don’t want to bug customers about old cart items nor email them 10 seconds after they add a new item.

Is it possible to have a Profile ID be used as a Barcode?

Off the top of my head couldn’t you add to customer profiles a base64 encoded image of the barcode?  It would just be text in the field, but you would just insert it dynamically into the email under and image tag. Getting the base64 encode into klaviyo would be the “work” part of this, but depending on your integration, could be very easy.

Random CURL Failures/0 Responses Today

Wanted to follow up on this in case others ran into the same problem.  Even though I had reviewd this a bunch of times, all the Klaviyo support articles pointed to a SSL certificate failure.  All my tests showed that my SSL cert was accurate, and talking with my server host confirmed this.  However, there was an expired certificate on a developer account on the same server.  Removing that expired certificate resolved the error.

Duplicate Profiles & Customer IDs

David - thank you for the detailed explanation of the logic.  It matches, 100%, what I’m expecting.The issue is that, seemingly randomly, this logic isn’t executed as you describe.  It works nearly perfectly.  We’ve done our best to ensure that our code is uniform and we’ve done a few audits to confirm that.  API always declares both $id and $email.  JS always declares $email only.  We always call the API call first, before page load with the JS tracking code.  How can I dig into this further?  Can I send you the payloads of two similar event histories, one that tracked correctly and one that duplicated?  Perhaps there is something you can see that we cannot.

Duplicate Profiles & Customer IDs

David  - We’re still struggling with this and I think Klaviyo’s handling of this situation is inconsistent.  In our implementation when we use the API we call both $id and $email.  When we use the Javascript calls we just just the $email.  This is consistent across the system.Most of the time (90%+) the Javascript calls are matched with the correct profiles.  However, sometimes they are not and a duplicate profile is created.  We’ve tested and tested and when testing behavior works as expected, except that randomly we’re still seeing duplicate profiles.Note: We are useing the ID field mainly because we found no way in your system to allow $email to be changed/updated for a customer without creating a new profile.  If we submit a call with $id then the $email is secondary and does get updated.  If there is an alternate way to address this please advise.

Would this flow accomplish:Having customer only in the flow once Having the most recent event trigger “bump” the old triggers out of the flow Ensure customer doesn’t get the abondoned cart email more than once a week
