How to lock-out Klaviyo's design flexibility?

@Taylor Tarpley All good! We’ve almost finished manually updating everything but still see random spans and tables with the rich text editor in Chrome (for Mac) for some reason.Things are better if we paste text into a plain text file first, then copy from the plain text file into Klaviyo although not completely eliminated.Cheers, Ben

MacOS - Paste often not working in Chrome for Mac

@Taylor Tarpley, Thanks for the reply, comments below… Do you mind clarifying what is hard about pasting in the editor? It’s that nothing (as in no text at all) gets pasted into the editor. Additionally, are you experiencing this issue when you use the plain text editor or the text block editor in a drag and drop email? This is in the text block editor when using drag and drop templates. If I switch to HTML (the HTML button in the editor), then text gets pasted, indicating something in the Rich Text Editor is blocking text from being pasted. I hope that makes more sense.Cheers, Ben

@Akers Digital Thanks for the reply.So just confirming that changing the medium for flows and campaigns to ‘email’ won’t change the reporting in Klaviyo which distinguishes between flows and campaigns?

Why does Google never show email conversions with Klaviyo?

@Ashley I. See above post for what the user @Omar claims about Klaviyo defaults in a different thread.@Omar suggests changing the medium defaults from either ‘campaign’ or ‘flow’ (see attached) to ‘email’ in lowercase so GA4 correctly attributes sales and traffic to email in basic reports. But will changing these to ‘email’ affect reports on Klaviyo or on other platforms like Shopify? For example, on Klaviyo we see this distinction which is obviously useful...But despite Klaviyo saying we generated $42k from email, GA4 shows $0…In fact, GA4 thinks email generated just 1 user session for the whole month of November!This is much more than a discrepancy because zero sales or traffic is being attributed to email - right?If you have time, any help would be much appreciated. @Omar You’re the only person I’ve found who has mentioned this, everyone else assumes the problem is about discrepancies which seems different from zero attribution.Our defaults seem to set medium to either ‘campaign’ or ‘flow’ like this... Does changing these to ‘email’ affect reports on Klaviyo or on other platforms like Shopify? Hi Ashley,Thanks for the posts but as mentioned, $0 isn’t an attribution discrepancy but rather, seems to indicate that Google isn’t recognising Klaviyo’s emails period - right?I’ve done more digging, and found a user @Omar who thinks that the default setup in Klaviyo is wrong and results in none of Klaviyo’s emails being attributed to ‘email’ by GA4… “Please change the default tracking in Klaviyo. The way this is setup as default is wrong.Just make sure when you go in setting to configure utm_medium to email (and use lowercase).” If someone could confirm that @Omar is correct and that Klaviyo’s defaults aren’t compatible with GA4, then I’ll do as he suggests. Just don’t want to make a bad situation worse!Any help/suggestions/confirmation of the issue would be much appreciated.Cheers, Ben

New editor - text blocks use DIV instead of P and strip out non-breaking space character when exporting

+1 for this. Even if I paste HTML the editor converts P tags to DIVs upon switching from code edit.

How to change Klaviyo's default 9px / 18px block spacing?

Thank you and understood, it’s what we do. But people love those drag-and-drop icons! They’re super intuitive which is surely why they were built? But to be on-brand, you can’t use them. Bummer!REQUEST: Allow us to set default styles for the drag-and-drop editor It’d be faster, more intuitive and ultimately more enjoyable if the drag-and-drop editor was on-brand. Even if styles had to be set via css or json, or however they’re currently set.Or put another way... Why do we want the drag-and-drop editor to conflict with our templates? Surely nobody wants this. Everyone loves those drag-and-drop icons - I know I do!

Thanks for the reply @Taylor Tarpley, much appreciated.And sorry if we’re missing something basic here or have a mental block about this as it applies to Klaviyo. To clarify, you’re looking to see if there’s a way to choose a pre-set styling for templates  Design lock-downThere’s obviously a lot of flexibility in all of the blocks so we’re trying to understand how to get basics like fonts and spacing more consistent. And then apply those defaults to emails moving forward.As one example, can you remove all the fonts and limit the list to the 1 or 2 chosen fonts? Currently we see ‘Your fonts’ but the endless list of other options remain.Or can we set default block spacing and apply to existing templates so that we don’t have to start again?After re-reading the docs, it seems the only way forward is to draw a line in the sand and create a new template with all of the defaults set, and ensure nobody pastes styles when pasting from a previous campaign - is that right? Applying a new templat

So after a lot of research, it doesn’t appear you can restrict design choices or apply design restrictions to existing templates.It appears the only way forward, is to start again with a brand new template but staff will still be able to do whatever they want which over time, will create the same inconsistencies we have now.Our main concern are the endless empty span tags that are somehow created (see attached) we still haven’t worked this out. I suspect that when you hit return, the RTE repeats all of the tags maybe? Not sure how we end-up with so many empty ones though?The attached images are from one text block, not even the full email. Empty spans with endless styles Low content to code ratio

Will Klaviyo get proper templates in future?

Thanks for the reply Jessica,Yes, the duplicate/reuse model is very useful. But sometimes (for a variety of reasons) it would be useful to set an account-wide set of styles that get applied to any block - just the basics from that screen but account-wide.We have set some stuff (like the fonts) but we have a lot of trouble with the RTE adding endless empty spans and divs for centering text etc. We suspect this is coming from the duplicate and reuse way of doing things. Layers of empty spans from each time a campaign was duplicated. Do you guys experience this or is it just us? We’re using the latest Chrome on MacOS incase it’s the cause.Cheers, Ben

Thanks David,I read the links but we don’t have the skills to setup our own link tracking. And we’re more concerned with understanding the broader implications because consumers are rightly taught to question domains they don’t recognise.We don’t want to create confusion around this and tell people it’s fine because learning to question domains you don’t recognise helps people recognise legitimate scams We don’t want to link our trusted name with tracking customers beyond our site across the internet or worse, having their habits on-sold.Does Klclick1 or Amazon ever do this with our customer’s Klaviyo data or am I being super naive about the reality of the internet?Cheers

@David To, your answers contradict themselves.On one hand you’re saying ‘no manual intervention necessary’ but on the other you say ‘it's up to you to manage the consent of your profiles/contacts’. Can you see why we’re totally confused at this point?This thread has come about because it’s becoming more common for customers to mention that they’ve unsubscribed but still receive emails. Granted, it’s 4 or 5 people on the past few months but for each person that says something, many more do not. This never happened in CM.And each time we’ve checked their profiles in Shopify, Accepts Marketing is set to false.So although you say we place too much weight on this Shopify flag, each time we see this issue, it’s tuned out that Shopify accurately reflects the customer’s wishes. Maybe this is luck but this never happened in CM. The purpose of exporting all your unsubscribed users and importing them into Klaviyo as suppressed would be establishing a source of truth of who you can and cannot reac

"Do you mind providing more details on the loopholes you’ve mentioned when it comes to suppressed profiles still receiving emails? The only emails suppressed profiles would be eligible to receive are transactional emails."CM obviously has lots of cons but when someone unsubscribes in CM, they'll never see another email with zero work form us. CM also respects when someone hasn't given explicit permission (or did when we used it). CM also weeds-out unsubs from campaigns with zero work. Yes, you can manually intervene but by default, CM doesn't create loopholes that result in e-mails being sent to people who don't want them.Klaviyo seems to work the opposite way and assumes you can send marketing (like ignoring Accepts Marketing = false). This obviously creates situations (or loopholes) where marketing emails are sent to those that don’t or never wanted them, unless you manually intervene. "Are you also by chance still sending emails out from your previously ESP"No. "or sending non-trans

@bluesnapper Thanks for the reply and I appreciate you’re just trying to help us - I didn’t realise you’re not from Klaviyo sorry.To anyone at Klaviyo, why is this so convoluted? We have unsubscribes and suppressions with seemingly multiple loopholes. When we started, I don’t remember seeing unsubscribes, certainly not on profiles - you had to navigate to the suppression list and add a profile - right?

@bluesnapper Thanks for the reply,To answer your question re initial migration, we created a segment in Klaviyo called ‘All suppressed’ that captured CM unsubs and we manually add it to each campaign (it was added to the campaign in question).But if we forget (we’re all human) then campaigns get sent to unsubs which is mind-numbing - right? Especially for something mission critical like unsubs.Question: If you install the Shopify integration, why can’t Klaviyo and Shopify talk so that the unsub loopholes you mention get removed automatically?Overall, it seems like Klaviyo tries to create opportunities to send rather than erring on the side of caution. This creates complex loopholes (read your answers above) that I’m sure most non-agency companies are unaware of.But these loopholes break trust with customers - why would you want this? If you respect your customer’s wishes, it’s truly worrying.
