Resending campaigns to people that didn't open: recommended or not?F.A.Q.

You’ve put together a fantastic email that you’re sure will drive great engagement with your subscribers, but after it goes out, you’re a bit disappointed with the low open rate. You know that other brands have resent the same email to people that didn’t open previously and you’re wondering whether this is a best practice?Klaviyo’s deliverability and compliance experts do not recommend using this tactic as it’s not considered to be a best practice within the industry. If you resend the same campaign to folks that didn’t open before, these customers are likely unengaged. Repeated sending to this group over time can damage your sender reputation and effect your ability to hit the inbox. Instead, think about whether you’re sending the right message to the right group of people!If the you’re getting pushback from your team to resend to your non-openers, you can create a segment of these customers for targeting. How often do segments update?F.A.Q.

Segmentation is one of the most powerful tools in Klaviyo! Segments update automatically and immediately.Once you create a segment, it will pull in customers that meet the definitions you set from anywhere in your Klaviyo account – this is why it’s important to confine a segment to a specific list if you’re using it for campaign targeting. Otherwise, you risk sending to people who have not opted in to receive your marketing messages!There are two exceptions to be aware of when discussing how often segments update: Segments that rely on relative time conditions, which are only true after a certain period of time (i.e. purchased from an email at least 5 days ago) - these types of segments update every 24 hours instead of real-time. Segments that rely on all “negative” conditions (i.e. everyone that is not in several specified lists) - these types of segments may update with a slight delay. Flows versus campaigns: What's the difference?

Campaigns and flows are Klaviyo’s bread and butter. If you find yourself getting a bit confused between the two, don’t worry!A campaign is a one-time email or SMS send to a pre-determined list or segment. These must be manually scheduled to be sent at a fixed point in time. A few examples of campaigns are sales promotions, educational blog content, or new product launches.A flow is an automated sequence that is set in motion by a specific trigger and then includes one or more steps. Flows can be built to send timely emails or SMS messages, or they can simply apply certain actions, like updating a specific field on a profile. These are usually a series of messages that are constantly running in the background hitting your customers at the right point in time with the right message. Two examples of high revenue generating flows are the welcome series or the abandoned cart.Happy sending!

How to change the list that your Klaviyo form is pointed to

Signup forms are an extremely useful tool when creating an on-site experience for your customers! You’ve worked hard to design the perfect form and just as you’re getting ready to publish it to your store, you realize you selected the wrong list to direct subscribers to (we’ve all been there!).Luckily, Klaviyo makes it easy to change the list your form is directed to in two quick steps:In the form editor, click your form’s CTA button. This will open a new menu on the left-hand side of the screen Click the dropdown next to the List to Submit section and choose your new list! Once you’ve made the change, remember to set your form to Live mode and click the Publish button!

Dynamic images appear fine with in-app previews, but are missing in Gmail: why is this happening?

Gmail can be a tricky inbox provider when it comes to emails rendering correctly! Klaviyo dynamically pulls images from your site through image source URLs from your integration. Sometimes these image source URLs may not have the http: or https: included, which can cause images not to render in Gmail.  To fix this issue, add |httpsize to the placeholder tag for the image. This will look different for each scenario, but here’s an example of what this might look like: {{ event.product_image_urls_1|httpsize }}  The tags can be different but the filter will remain the same. Adding this placeholder tag should be the trick to solving this issue!

I have a password protected landing page on my Shopify store and my subscribers aren't being added to a list. What should I do?

This is likely happening due to your signup form not being configured properly to ensure that new signups get added to your list. There are two main steps to take to resolve this issue! The first will take place in your Klaviyo account and the second will take place from your Shopify Admin page. Ensure you’re logged into both for a speedy fix! Login to Klaviyo, navigate to the Integrations tab, and select your Shopify integrationFrom here, ensure that the “Subscribe customers who Accept Marketing to a Klaviyo list” check box is selected. If it isn’t, check this box and select the list you’d like subscribers added too. Why is hyperlinked text in an abandoned cart email not redirecting people to checkout?

You’ve designed a great email for your abandoned cart flow but when you preview the email in Klaviyo, you notice that your CTA button redirects customers to thecheckout page correctly but your hyperlinked text does not. You see the dreaded "This site can't be reached" page in your browser. How do you fix it? This is most likely happening due to some missing characters in your URL. This happens because Klaviyo populates your website URL in the template using the {{ organization.url }} tag, which pulls directly from the URL you have inserted in your account settings. Sometimes this URL may be missing a / after the .com which can cause the checkout URL to break.  In the email editor of your abandoned cart flow, you’ll need to add a / to the URL of your hyperlinked text. To edit the URL for hyperlinked text, click into the table block and select Rows > Column 2.    From here, double click the hyperlinked {{ item.product.title }} tag. You’ll see a new window appear where you can add in t

How do you clean bounces from your account?

An email bounces when it doesn’t successfully deliver or is rejected from the inbox provider. Klaviyo will automatically suppress profiles that hard bounce, but what about emails that soft bounce?Klaviyo will suppress these profiles automatically after 7 consecutive bounces (with no successful deliveries in between) but if you’re concerned about your deliverability, you may want to consider cleaning these bounces from your list! You can create a segment of profiles who have bounced a certain number of times (i.e. 3x) and suppress that segment of customers before they reach the 7 consecutive bounce rule. To do this, create a segment in your account using the following conditions:You can use the filter icon to filter by Bounce Type and then select Soft when you click into the text box. Note that if you simply segment by Bounced Email, all profiles that bounce (regardless of the Bounce Type) will be pulled into your segment!Once created, export this segment as a CSV, navigate to the Profi

Saving blocks that you’ll use often can be a great time saver! But what happens if your list of saved blocks starts to get a little outdated? Canceling a campaign mid-send: how do you resend without emailing people that already received the original campaign?

Your first step in this situation should be to create a segment of customers who received the first campaign. This segment will then be excluded from your secondary send to ensure that you don’t double email any profiles.  To create this segment, head to your Lists & Segments tab and click to create a new segment. Once you have named your segment, choose the following definition: What someone has done (not done) > Received Email > at least once, then filter by your Campaign Name  When you create your second campaign, choose to target the same lists or segments from the original send and exclude the segment that you just created to ensure that customers do not receive multiple emails.  Happy sending!

Why are customers who accept marketing in BigCommerce being added to the newsletter list, but are not triggering the Welcome Series?

For those with a  BigCommerce store, there is a default setting in place that prevents people who accept marketing at checkout from automatically receiving the welcome series. A welcome series flow is designed with brand new visitors in mind. These are people who have never before been exposed to your business. People who accept marketing at checkout could be new to your brand, or they could have purchased from you a few times before, which would mean it might not be appropriate for this person to get queued up for your welcome series. This said, this setting is completely optional! If it makes more sense for your brand to be sending welcome series emails to customers that accept marketing at checkout, please contact our Success Team to have this setting adjusted.

Sending a campaign to multiple lists and segments: Will people receive multiple emails?

Maybe it’s the holidays or maybe you have a big product launch coming up! Either way, this is a use case where you’ll likely need to target multiple lists and segments with the same email. Klaviyo will not send the email more than once. Your campaign will know that is someone on more than one of the lists/segments included, and ensure that they only get the email one time! To include multiple lists or segments within the same campaign, use the Send to dropdown under the Recipients section of the campaign builder and select your audiences.Pro tip - you can search for your lists or segments by typing in their names or scroll through the dropdown until you find the ones you’re looking to target. Where do Shopify tags appear in Klaviyo?

If you’ve set Shopify tags to be assigned to customer profiles after they signup for your newsletter, or through Shopify’s back end, you’re probably wondering where you can view these tags in Klaviyo.These tags are assigned to profiles as custom properties. You can see what tags have been assigned to a particular profile or to a group of customers. To view an individual customer’s Shopify tags, click into their profile and scroll down to the Information box. If Shopify tags have been setup, you will see them noted under the Custom Properties section on their profile:If you want to see a group of customers that have a particular tag(s), you can create a segment of these profiles using the “Properties about someone” definition:Fill in the “dimension value” box with the name of your Shopify tag.
