GA4 Tracking Issues

Within the last few months, GA has been grabbing campaign names in a weird manner

For example, our campaign name in Klaviyo is: 4th of July Sale_2024_Email #1

In GA4 it’s coming across as 4th$2520of$2520July$2520Sale_2024_Email$2520#1

It looks like the underscores are the issue here. Should we not be using those? It is causing campaigns to not merge correctly in GA4 and I was wondering if that there is something with our UTM parameters that may be the culprit?

Hi @starfox221,

Thank you for your question in the Klaviyo community.

This is a funny one - I don’t typically use underscores in the name of a campaign. One potential option here would be to switch these out for spaces.

The other option would be to customise the campaign UTM for each campaign individually - you can create these when you’re setting up a campaign itself:

If you don’t want to change this, you can change the overarching account settings in this page:

There is also a full help centre article on UTM’s here.

I hope that helps!

Thanks
David
