Recently, many emails captured through Klaviyo into our profiles have bounced. We’re wondering why this is. Any ideas?

More specifically, people who have been receiving our emails successfully for months, suddenly are getting bounced emails. See below for an example. What could be causing this? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi @cbzhu, glad to see you back in the community.

Across the dozens of accounts that I review, especially for high volume senders, there’s always going to be emails that bounced for various reasons.  If you look in the Bounce details report in the deliverability hub (Admin Sidebar → Analytics →  Deliverability → Bounce details), it summarizes some of the possible reasons across a given timeframe (e.g. Last 30 Days).

Here’s a an example screenshot:

That can give you some overall clues on what’s happening, and you can drill into specific inbox carriers (Gmail vs Outlook vs Apple, etc) to see if it’s isolated to one of the inbox carriers or overall.

Additionally, you can also look at your Recipient Activity tab for a given campaign, and select the “Bounced” secondary sidebar to see more detail reasons for each recipient’s bounce type/reason like this:

This can give you some more insight on what’s happening.

There’s a longer conversation about how to minimize bounces, or what to do with high bounce rates; but it depends on what you’re seeing in those reports and what your overall sender reputation (e.g. deliverability score) is at the time.

For example, if you have a poor sender reputation, and continue poor sending behavior (have poor engagement), then your emails will start to either go to Spam folders and/or bounce, as that is the way inbox carrier “protect” their recipients from abusive senders.  That’s why it is important to maintain good and consistent sending practices so that your deliverability remains healthy.

Hope this helps!
