Should We Migrate From Klaviyo?

Hey all...

We recently set up Klaviyo for our Shopify store but quickly realized over 50% of our emails were landing in spam.

So we changed the subdomain in Klaviyo and updated our DNS records

But after sending a test email to new email addresses, we still land in spam.

Turns out the shared IP from Klaviyo is blacklisted, and we can't get a dedicated IP unless we meet certain conditions.

Should we migrate from Klaviyo? What ESP would you recommend for a Shopify store? We're looking for a tool that's equally powerful and similar to Klaviyo.

Thanks!

Note: We were sending emails to only buyers who opted in to email marketing. We were also in the process of setting up a sign-up form to generate new leads.

Hello @Sales Impact

Shared IP is one of the reason but there could be other reason as well.

Here are things you can check

  • Domain authentication keys like DKIM, SPF and DMARC

  • Content used in email including, keywords, text to image ratio and Image size

You can get more info from Google Postmaster and Microsoft Postmasters on deliverability

Migrating from Klaviyo can be a significant decision, especially if you're facing deliverability issues. Here are some considerations and potential alternatives for your Shopify store:

Reasons to Consider Migration

  1. Deliverability Issues: If you’re consistently landing in spam folders, it could severely impact your email marketing effectiveness and sales. A good ESP should prioritize deliverability.
  2. Blacklisted IP: If Klaviyo's shared IP is blacklisted and you cannot get a dedicated IP, this might hinder your ability to reach your audience effectively.
  3. Cost vs. Benefit: If the ongoing issues outweigh the benefits you're seeing from Klaviyo, it may be time to explore other options.

Recommended ESP Alternatives

  1. ActiveCampaign:
    • Known for its powerful automation capabilities and CRM features, it integrates well with Shopify and offers excellent deliverability rates.
  2. Omnisend:
    • Specifically designed for e-commerce, Omnisend offers strong automation features, segmentation, and integrations with Shopify. It also has a focus on deliverability.
  3. MailerLite:
    • A more budget-friendly option that offers essential email marketing features, including automation and landing page creation, with a focus on user-friendly design.
  4. Sendinblue:
    • Offers a range of features including SMS marketing, automation, and strong deliverability. It's also competitive in terms of pricing.
  5. Drip:
    • Tailored for e-commerce, Drip provides advanced segmentation and personalization features, along with robust automation capabilities.

Steps Before Migrating

  1. Review Email Practices: Ensure your email practices comply with best practices, such as proper list hygiene, engaging content, and opt-in processes.
  2. Test Deliverability: Use tools like Mail Tester or GlockApps to analyze the deliverability of your emails before making a switch.
  3. Consider a Dedicated IP: Some ESPs offer dedicated IPs more readily than Klaviyo. If deliverability is a key concern, prioritize providers that can offer this.
  4. Plan Your Migration: If you decide to migrate, ensure you have a solid plan in place for transferring your data, maintaining compliance, and re-engaging your audience.

Here’s another perspective on whether to migrate from Klaviyo and some alternative suggestions:

Reasons to Consider Migration

  1. Persistent Spam Issues: If over 50% of your emails are landing in spam despite taking steps to improve deliverability, it indicates a fundamental issue that may not be easily resolved with Klaviyo.

  2. Shared IP Concerns: Being on a shared IP that’s blacklisted can significantly affect your ability to reach customers. If you can’t upgrade to a dedicated IP, it might limit your growth potential.

  3. Time and Resources: If you find yourself spending too much time troubleshooting deliverability issues rather than focusing on your marketing strategy, it might be worth exploring other options.

Recommended ESP Alternatives

  1. GetResponse:

    • Offers strong automation features and integrates well with Shopify. It includes tools for webinars, landing pages, and a CRM, making it versatile for e-commerce.
  2. ConvertKit:

    • While primarily aimed at creators, ConvertKit provides excellent segmentation and automation options. It’s user-friendly and focuses on engagement, making it suitable for small to medium-sized e-commerce businesses.
  3. Klaviyo Alternatives:

    • Mailchimp: Known for its user-friendly interface, it provides automation and reporting features. However, its capabilities for advanced segmentation may not be as strong as Klaviyo’s.
    • Campaign Monitor: Offers beautiful email templates and solid automation features. It’s designed for simplicity and good deliverability.
  4. Postscript:

    • If SMS marketing interests you, Postscript integrates with Shopify and allows for powerful SMS campaigns alongside email, helping to diversify your marketing strategy.

Considerations Before Migrating

  1. Evaluate Features: Make sure the alternative ESP offers the features you need, such as automation, segmentation, and reporting.

  2. Test Deliverability with New ESP: Before fully migrating, consider testing your email deliverability with a few campaigns on the new platform.

  3. Onboarding and Support: Choose a platform that offers good customer support and resources to help you transition smoothly.

  4. Migration Strategy: Plan how to transfer your existing subscriber lists, segments, and automations to minimize disruption.

Final Thoughts

If Klaviyo's deliverability issues persist and hinder your email marketing effectiveness, exploring alternatives is a sensible move. Each of the suggested platforms offers unique features that can benefit your Shopify store, so weigh your options carefully based on your business needs and goals.
