Does Abandoned Cart flow work only for registered members logged in or subscribers too?

I’d like to know how Abandoned Cart works for non-subscribers, subscribers to newsletter and registered members. Presuming non-subscribers or ‘guests’ it won’t work as there is no way to send them a message? But let’s say they got a prompt to subscribe to the newsletter during browsing and they do this, is that then held in the memory and then if they abandon their cart it triggers the flow to send them a reminder?

And what about if they come into the website again without clearing their cache will it work for them too. And what if they do clear their cache, does that mean it will not recognise them as a subscriber when they browse again in the same browser?

And registered members who are not subscribers but are logged out, would they need to be logged in for the flow to be triggered?

Also, what causes the trigger to occur, does the user have to close out of the browser or does it simply wait to see if the cart is progressed to purchase and how long does it wait to make that the decision to trigger the flow? Is that time period configurable or fixed?

Hey @lucinilondon

When you add Klaviyo's onsite tracking to your site, it only tracks the browsing activity of "known browsers" (i.e. browsers that have visited or engaged on your site, submitted a form through a certain action, reached the success step of a form, reached the final reachable step for tap-to-text for SMS, or have been identified or "cookied").

There are multiple ways Klaviyo will identify a site visitor for onsite tracking:

  • If someone has, at some point, clicked through a Klaviyo email or SMS to your website.
  • If someone has, at some point, subscribed/opted-in through a Klaviyo form.
  • If someone has, submitted a Klaviyo form through a certain action.
  • If someone has reached the success step of a form, or reached the final reachable step for tap-to-text (Subscribe via SMS) forms.
  • If someone has, at some point, logged in to your site (and you have installed custom tracking for logged in users, which is not included with Klaviyo's native ecommerce integrations).

When one of these actions have taken place, we will “cookie” their browser and be able to assign all their actions to their profile. Any historic data not associated with their IP address will then be assigned to their profile so you will have a holistic view of every action they have taken on your site.

Hope this helps!
