I use Shopify.

Shopify has this bad habit to make the user subscribed to Email marketing if the user checks the checkbox in checkout even though the user does NOT place the order.

I want to avoid this, but I can’t do it in Shopify Flow.

All signups go from Shopify > Klaviyo who handles the welcome email.

I made this flow to try and ‘revert’ the subscription if the user does opt-in in checkout but does not place an order.

It works 50%. I can see the users abandoning the cart (having checked the checkbox in checkout) is changed to “Accepts marketing” = false in Klaviyo.

How ever the main “Email” category on the profile page remains ‘subscribed’ and in Shopify the user still accepts Email marketing.

Can anyone help me to secure that the user/customer in Shopify will have Email marketing turned OFF?

Here is my flow:

Hey @numzie

Just a quick question. The only way the customer subscribes is if they checkbox is marked AND they provided their email address. If this is the case, wouldn’t you want the customer to receive your welcome flow or abandoned checkout flow, as this is a way customers can signup for your marketing?

No that is exactly the issue.

In Denmark (and probably the EU if they actually investigated the cases) it’s not a persmission if you do not complete the checkout.

Abandon cart e-mails are also not permitted as the customer didn’t complete the checkout hence didn’t finalize their subscription to e.g. a newsletter.
