I was testing my lists and noticed that when someone doesn’t sign up for emails through the main popup but instead goes directly to the checkout page, enters their email, and then doesn’t complete the order, Klaviyo/Shopify doesn’t automatically pick up that email. Is that how it's supposed to work? Is the only way to trigger the abandoned checkout email flow for them to first enter their email in the website popup and then proceed to checkout?

The reason I ask is that if they sign up through the main popup on the website and then also go to the checkout, these are two different flows for me, and it could mean they would receive emails from both flows (Welcome series & Abandoned checkout series).

If this is the only way, which series should I prioritize first? The Welcome series or the Abandoned Checkout series? They’re both pretty good. I can’t find a way to have them not conflict..

Hi @Nardrool,

Welcome to the Klaviyo Community, and thank you for your question!

If the subscribers aren’t synching through it sounds like you might not have the sync from Shopify enabled in the Shopify Settings

If you wanted to avoid sending both emails at once, you could add in a conditional split to filter out people that received your abandon cart flow. So for example if your wait step on abandon cart is 1h, you could do something like this:

You could also (instead of linking back to the main email) add in an additional welcome discount here after 1 day if the customer hasn’t made a purchase since starting the flow - just to try and drive conversion.

I hope that helps - let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks
David

Hey David,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Two quick clarifications: First, I was asking if it's possible for Klaviyo to capture an email from an abandoned checkout if the customer hasn't provided their email anywhere else (e.g., pop-ups, sign-ups, etc.). For example, if someone lands on our product page, receives a pop-up to sign up for the newsletter but closes it, and then proceeds to the checkout stage but doesn't complete the purchase, would Klaviyo be able to collect the email from that field and use it for a welcome series?

Secondly, I like your idea of delaying the first email in the welcome series to give enough time for the Abandoned Checkout/Cart flow to be triggered if they qualify for it. However, I noticed in your flow example picture that it seems to be the opposite. Wouldn't "No" initiate the welcome series flow and "Yes" end the flow since the Abandoned Checkout/Cart flow has been triggered?

Hi @Nardrool,

You’re most welcome.

On your first point - yes, the email address of the customer will be pushed from Shopify to Klaviyo as soon as the customer has started the checkout and entered their email address. This is also compatible with the new Shopify one-page checkout. So this will work as long as the integration is enabled.

As soon as the email address is entered the customer is identified as well. Here is a snapshot of activity on a new email account I’ve just used on my sandbox:

HOWEVER - I haven’t opted into the newsletter list at this stage yet. If I do opt in using the tickbox here and I complete my checkout, I would actually be opted in:

On point 2 - you’re completely right! I put the wait step in the wrong place in my flow - clearly my morning coffee hadn’t kicked in yet!

So the correct setup would be like the below - as you can see the no split now jumps directly to the first email with the yes (has received an abandon cart email since starting this flow) has a 1 day wait step added.

One final note on this - Klaviyo is about to enhance the on-site tracking on Shopify even further - for more info on this, check out the What’s New page and look for the “Extended ID & Shopify Server Pixel sync” video in the top section.

Hope that helps!

Thanks
David
