Hey everyone!
I have a question that i honestly never found an answer for.
Let’s say that someone just gave their email thru a pop-up and they abandoned their cart for example
Do they get the welcome series and the abandoned cart flow emails at the same time?
Hi
Thank you for your question in the Klaviyo Community!
This all depends on how you have set up your Welcome Series Flow and your Abandon Cart Flow.
Generally for your welcome series, this email flow will be linked to a List. And a customer will enter this List when they signup for emails via popup, embed or alike through the website.
For the Abandon Cart emails, again, this is dependent of your set up, but this is action based, meaning the flow should trigger based on the actions and conditions of the customer.
In terms of timing, this is will depend on your setting of each flow. Most Abandon Cart emails are set for 2-4 hours post the action and the Welcome Email (first email) will be within the hour. But you can customize this.
So generally speaking, a customer can get both.
However (and sorry to add this in), there is a setting in Klaviyo where you can tick it, per flow, to say that if a customer has received an email from you within the last X hours (16 by default) they are not to receive this said email. So this is worth checking too.
I hope this helps!

Hey
Just to follow up on what
The purpose of email marketing is to guide a customer from signing up to placing an order and then encourage repeat purchases. This process is known as the "Customer Lifecycle." Ideally, a customer should be in only one flow at a time and exit each flow based on their actions.
Here’s how a customer typically progresses from one flow to another:
- Sign up for your newsletter (Welcome Flow)
- View a product (Browse Abandonment Flow if they don’t engage further)
- Add a product to the cart (Added to Cart Flow if they don’t proceed to checkout)
- Start the checkout process (Checkout Abandonment Flow if they don’t complete the purchase)
- Place an order (Post-Purchase Flow)
- Make repeat purchases (Repeat Buyer Flow)
To ensure customers are in one flow at a time, you need to use flow filters. These filters help customers exit one flow and enter another, preventing them from receiving emails from a previous flow once they have moved on to the next step.
So, to answer your question, “Do they get the welcome series and the abandoned cart flow emails at the same time?” – Yes, they can, but ideally, they shouldn’t. You should use filters to prevent customers from being in multiple flows simultaneously.
I hope this helps!
