Hello,

We send out a lot of gifts on behalf of people and I am setting up a reminder flow to send out to senders. How do I add in the recipients name (shipping name) rather than the sender? e.g Hello, a year ago you sent XXXXX a gift. Would you like to send XXXXX a gift this year?

I have tried a few different codes and none seem to work

Thank you

Some questions:

  • How are you capturing the gift recipient’s name in Klaviyo? As a custom property or is it within a purchase event?
  • Are you timestamping that gift event for an ‘anniversary’ flow so it repeats each year?

Andy

Hi Andy

Thank you for your email. It may be that I am not capturing the recipients name in Klaviyo. In the past when we have inserted

{{ first_name }}

it has automatically filled with the recipients name rather than the sender which has caused its own problems. Could you please direct me toward the best method to capture the recipients name? I had begun setting up a flow which filtered only those people who had sent gifts.

Thank you so much,

Bee

No problem @bee hurf

I’ll see if I can help. It's not something I’ve done before, but it's a nice approach!

In an email, you can insert Klaviyo profile data (such as first_name), event data that’s pushed from your ecomm platform to Klaviyo (e.g placed order), and also any profile custom properties you have created.

Whether you can include the gift recipient’s name depends on how that’s being captured and if that data is being pushed to Klaviyo as part of an event.

I assume it’s being captured when an order is placed - correct?

What ecomm platform are you using?

Are you using a gift app that allows the purchaser to add the recipient’s details and maybe a gift message?

Andy

I am not sure whether it is being pushed to Klaviyo. I can’t see that happening. you can see events but not the recipient/shipping name.

We don’t use a gift app - we just have the option to add a message and then people enter the recipients name and address in ‘Shipping’. We use Shopify.

We really appreciate the help! I am sure I am not the only one who would love for this to be able to work.

Thanks

Hi @bee hurf

Unless someone else on here has an alternative approach, I think you will need to use a gift app that integrates with Klaviyo.

The Shopify placed order event pushes to Klaviyo the billing name & address (the giver) and shipping name & address (the recipient). However this doesn't help in your use case as I don’t think there will be an event property in Klaviyo that says it’s a gift.

That’s where a gift app that integrates with Klaviyo comes in. It will send specific gift events to Klaviyo. The additional benefit is that the gift option will be on the product page so the buyer can see that upfront and add their message before proceeding to checkout. Most also have a nice feature to set the time of a message to be sent to the recipient notifying them that they have a gift. Useful for upcoming birthdays.

Here’s one I came across for Shopify https://giftnote.com/ and demo site here https://demo.giftnote.com/ and their Klaviyo integration here https://giftnote.com/blog/supercharge-giftnote-with-our-klaviyo-integration. Costs $1 USD per order, but there will be others out there.

Hope that helps

Andy

Thank you so much for your time Andy. I will have a look at these apps today.

No problem @bee hurf

I hope you find a suitable solution. When you have it, it would be great if you share your findings with the community!
