I created a form with a custom input text field, but when I go to personalize an email template, I don’t have that field as a choice!  I’m sure I’m missing a step, but there aren’t clear instructions for this specific use case in the documentation.  I found several articles with bits and pieces of information, but none of it is clear to me.

Can anyone help me with this?

Klaviyo will only show a custom property value as a choice in your email personalisation when at least one contact has submitted your form with the custom field, so it has been created and has a value. It sounds like this has not yet happened.

The best way to populate is to submit a form test to your list so you capture a value. You’ll then see that custom property as an option in your email.

The other way is just to insert the following in your email: 

{{ person|lookup:"your_custom_property_name” }}

However, I recommend taking the test submission approach as then you can see all is working OK with live data.
