Not a silly question at all! It gets brought up more than you can think!
Once an image has been uploaded to an email template, deleting the same uploaded image from the brand library will not impact or delete it from the email.
You can try testing this yourself by uploading an image to the brand library, adding the image to an email template, and then deleting it from the brand library. Going back to the email template you’ll notice that the image still remain and is still usable when sending either a test or even live email.
