Hi,

I’m trying to track the Shopify Viewed Collection event mentioned here https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/4425956184731 but no matter what I do, I can’t seem to get it to fire under any test circumstances. Is there something that I might be missing in enabling or does this event no longer exist?

Thanks

Hi @obviyo

Thanks for being a part of our community! Yes, the metric exists. I’d recommend going through the checklist below and report back if you get stuck on a particular part of it:

  • Verify Shopify-Klaviyo Integration:
  • Initial Data Sync Completion:
    • Confirm that the initial 90-day sync has completed, and that the full historical data sync is done. A green progress bar in Klaviyo will indicate the sync status.
  • Real-time Sync Confirmation:
    • Verify that real-time sync is enabled and functioning correctly. Any new data from Shopify should appear in Klaviyo within seconds.
  • Klaviyo Tracking Code Installation:
    • Ensure that the Klaviyo tracking snippet is installed on your Shopify store. This snippet is essential for tracking the Viewed Collection and other onsite events.
      • To verify, check your Shopify store’s code (usually in the <head> section of your theme files) for the Klaviyo tracking script.
  • Enable Onsite Tracking in Klaviyo:
    • Check that onsite tracking is enabled in your Klaviyo account settings.
  • Check the Collection Page URL:
    • Confirm that you have identified users (customers logged in or who have submitted their email) viewing the collection page, as Klaviyo typically tracks identified users for the "Viewed Collection" event.
  • Check Shopify Metrics in Klaviyo:
    • Go to Analytics > Metrics in Klaviyo, and filter for Shopify metrics. Ensure that "Viewed Collection" appears in the list.
    • If it doesn’t appear, there may be an issue with the Shopify-Klaviyo sync or tracking setup.
  • Test with Different User Scenarios:
    • Test the event while logged in to Shopify with a customer profile.
    • Test as a guest user who has submitted their email through another method (e.g., email capture forms) to see if the event is being recorded correctly.
  • Review Privacy Settings:
    • Check that your Shopify store is not blocking certain user data, as privacy settings may prevent the Klaviyo tracking script from capturing the "Viewed Collection" event.
  • Check for Ad Blockers or Privacy Extensions:
    • Ensure that your browser or device isn’t using an ad blocker or privacy extension that could be blocking the Klaviyo tracking script.
  • Troubleshoot with the Developer Console:
    • Open the browser developer tools (usually F12 or right-click > "Inspect") and go to the "Network" tab.
    • Refresh the page, then look for network requests to Klaviyo when viewing a collection page. The URL should indicate an event sent to Klaviyo.
    • If no request is shown, the script may not be running correctly.

@obviyo - if you go to your Integration → Shopify, do you still see the “Get Started” button?

If you do, make sure to enable it for those events to start firing.

If you’re still not seeing those events, you can follow the steps above that @chloe.strange outlined.  Remember, Klaviyo can only track those behavioral events of people that can be identified via cookies/sessions - so make sure you don’t have any cookie/privacy/ad blockers (or have settings on your site that prevents them), and you’re coming back from the same device/browser that you used to Sign Up (or opened an email).

The best way to “force” an identified user for testing is appending it to the url like this:

yoursite.com/?utm_email=your-email-here@gmail.com

See if that helps!

Hi,

As far as I can tell everything is installed that should be.

As mentioned every other event mentioned of interest is tracking (Viewed Product, Ordered Product, etc...) but I see no instances of the viewed collection event occurring.

Also, I have been testing with the utm_email querystring param but that doesn’t seem to produce any additional events on any of my collection pages.

Everything else seems to be working as expected and I did a full uninstall/reinstall and also tried on a fresh dawn theme as well just to see if any other apps or configurations could be interfering but it still seems as though the viewed collection event never fires.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I’m certainly happy to try anything here as being able to track viewed collection events would be very useful for our integration.
