I just setup my klaviyo account and am running into a very troubling issue.

When people go to signup (via a signup form) the emails are not added to the list and the user is not sent a welcome email. This is true of SOME gmail accounts and ALL of non-gmail accounts.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Hi @Lsim!

Can you confirm what the opt-in setting is for the list, if it’s double or single opt-in nview doc]?

A common reason here is that by default a list’s consent setting is set to double opt-in, requiring the user to confirm their subscription via email before they are added to the list.

Cheers,
Bobby

HI @Bobby!

The opt-in is set to “Double opt-in (recommended)”.  Are you recommending I set it to single opt in?

Hi @Lsim,

Most brands that I’ve subscribed to that operate solely within the US have their lists set to single opt-in for obvious performance reasons (i.e. less risk of people forgetting to opt-in via email and not make it into the list).

That said, because there’s a compliance component involved, I can’t provide a recommendation as to whether or not you should enable single opt-in for your brand. For example, there are certain countries (e.g. I believe Germany is one) that require it if your business operates or sells to residents within their borders.

If at any point you begin to experience bot activity or receive a lot of invalid email addresses, double opt-in is a great way to make sure your list remains healthy.

I hope the above helps, and congrats on the move to Klaviyo!

Cheers,
Bobby

thank you @Bobby for the incredibly thoughtful feedback on this. I tried switching to single opt in and the emails that were unable to sign-up for this list now work. I’m still wondering about why the double opt-in doesn’t work (I do have an open ticket with Klaviyo about this).

I’m going to keep this as single opt in for now until there can be some resolution.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Best,

Lsim
