I must be super thick as I cannot seem to get my head around these profile statuses.

One client has:

  • Listed as Subscribed on Shopify
  • Klaviyo property shows as ‘Email never subscribed’.
  • Accepts Marketing = True

I have sync turned on for Shopify - Klaviyo, yet customer appears subscribed in Shopify and Never Subscribed on Klaviyo

I understand that Accepts marketing Shopify custom property, what I don’t understand is am I safe to send them regular camping emails?

I can assume this person is counted as an Active Subscriber but -Is this person subscribed or not subscribed?

Which value am I to believe?

HALP!! Have reached out to support but clarification was not clear. Have read online but info appears to be 3 years old or so, so not keen to trust its accuracy.

@kerrib I’ve been looking into this as well.

I suspect as follows:

The client opted in to email marketing, but never confirmed via the double opt-in. Shopify is showing as subscribed and is feeding into klaviyo as such, but klaviyo needs the double opt-in confirmed in order to show as subscribed in Shopify.

Following this thread to see if anyone has any solutions.

@kerrib

I think (though I haven’t tried it) if you enable the double opt-in in your Shopify settings, it will stop tagging people as ‘subscribed’ who haven’t done the double opt-in.

@kerrib Yes, @B B is correct! if you Klaviyo list is set to double opt-in, this status will only changed to Subscribed if they confirm their subscription once they get added to your list. “Accepts marketing” is synced from Shopify and is set based on your Shopify store settings.

You should make sure this checkbox is off by default:

Here are more details on how Shopify users are added to your Klaviyo list.
