Hi all,

I want to do some affiliate marketing with Clickbank (CB) but I noticed that they have a suppression list consisting of 3000+ email domains that CB affiliates are not supposed to email to.

I tried to upload this suppression list to Klaviyo as a list but since it is a list consisting of only domains and not email addresses, Klaviyo is unable to import the list.

I reached out to their helpdesk but was told there’s only 2 ways:

  1. To create a segment and choose ‘Properties about someone’, ‘Email’ ‘doesn’t contain’ ‘@domain-name.com OR
  2. To export my email list to CSV, filter out the list of restricted email domains and upload it back to my Klaviyo as a separate list from my main list.

The problem with method 1 is that I will have to do it 3000 times because CB has a list of 3000+ domains names on the suppression list. It will take me ages to do this.

The problem with method 2 is that my main list is growing every day as I’m running a lead generation campaign. And if I use this method, this means that I will have to manually update this separate list daily or every few days. It’s not only painful, but I risk making mistakes with it when I am constantly updating it.

If any of you has successfully imported CB’s suppression list in a non-painful way, I would be really grateful if you could share your method with me.

Thank you!

Hi @cheekypeas,

Thank you for sharing your question with the Klaviyo Community.

First, let me preface this post by saying that affiliate marketing is not allowed on the Klaviyo platform at this time. While we understand that some people want to use our platform for marketing affiliate links, this is something that is strictly against our terms of service.

In terms of uploading suppressions, this can only be done manually via a .CSV file upload with the full email addresses (not just the domains), method number two would be the best workaround at this time. Suppressing profiles is a manually initiated process at this time.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Hi @dov.derin,

Thank you for your reply.

I would like to clarify the point about affiliate marketing not being allowed on the Klaviyo platform. Can you point out the specific clauses pertaining to this in your terms of service.

Also, when I mean that I want to use it for affiliate marketing, I mean that I will be emailing my email database with content emails. The affiliate link will only be including as an URL link in the email. There is no mention of the Affiliate Marketing company or plaform.

Please confirm if this is something that’s not allowed. If that’s the case, I will have to look into an alternative CRM platform.

Thank you.

Hi @cheekypeas,

Thank you for your follow-up reply.

Of course. It is actually contained in our Acceptable Use Policy under the section Prohibited Content:

“You may not use the Services to:

Offer products, services or content related to any of the following industries: escort and dating services; multi-level marketing; affiliate marketing; credit repair and “get out of debt” services; cryptocurrencies; selling ‘Likes’ or followers for a social media platform; work from home, make money online, and lead generating opportunities; pharmaceutical products; gambling products or services; or list brokers or list rental services”

Understood. Yes, I am afraid even if it contains affiliate links it is still not allowed.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
