Hi, We are currently sending newsletters to customers and leads who subscribed to marketing messages, but we also want to send "product recommendation mailings" to customers who have NOT opted in for newsletters. We need to send these emails via Klaviyo integrated with shopify.

We need to create a segment/list of customers who ordered at least one time from our store but didn’t opt in for Newsletter mails. How can I do it? I am confused what conditions to chose. Can someone please help?

Thank you for your question in the Klaviyo Community!

The first thing you will need to ensure if that these customers you are wanting to send these newsletters too, need to have opted into Marketing. You can not send marketing campaigns to customers who have not opted to do so.

You mentioned some customers sign up for newsletters. Is there another way a customer can option into marketing?

Hi Kylie, Thank you for the response. I think we are allowed to send product recommendations email to the customers who purchased at least one from us even tho they didn’t opt in for newsletter. Its called ‘ Soft Opt-IN’

But I need to understand how to implement this?
These are the customers who bought from us atleast once and are not listed in our regular subscribers list.


Hey @Moiz! To clarify, purchasing a product from you is implicit consent which, depending on your country and your recipients country, has different laws regarding what you can or can’t do with it. Additioanlly, since these contacts haven’t actually agreed to receiving marketing messages from your brand, they are more likely to opt out or mark you as spam, leading to deliverability issues. If there are enough complaints, you can wind up on block-lists for email service providers (e.g., Gmail and Yahoo). 

 

Generally we recommend against using implicit consent and rely on explicit consent instead to be safer. Check out our help doc on this for more info!
