To answer it in brief, the attribution window starts from the moment the triggering action is taken, i.e. opened or clicked email (or just clicked, if that’s how you set it up). So, it’s not related to when the email is received.

I wanted to quickly chime in and let you know that the conversion window does begin when an email/SMS is received. According to our Understanding Message Conversion Tracking article, “The conversion period begins when a subscriber receives a message. Only follow-up actions that occur within the conversion period or attribution window count.”
This means that if your attribution window is 5 days, and placed order is your conversion metric, a person has 5 days from receiving your email to open it and then purchase, for that purchase to count as a conversion.
