Thanks Jessica and Joseph. I like the idea of building a custom signup form with all the properties as dropdowns or buttons. By “then embed it on a hidden page that only you know where to find” do you mean not on the Klaviyo app but perhaps on Evernote or an MS Word Document?Then how would I transfer them to my Klaviyo mailing list?I think we’re getting close to my needs now. I have lead magnets that collect email addresses for me that I need to add to Klaviyo as well as transferring them to Substack. Eventually I will automate all this but I’m just starting out and feeling my way. Thanks again!Laura

But it does seem weird that there is no check off for properties that I make myself that I can apply to all new people that I add. Am I missing something here or did I truly find a useful feature that is missing in Klaviyo's expert data entry.Thanks!

Wow this sounds so complicated!I am not importing any lists. I’m just adding subscribers one by one. So I need to make a form, button click or preference? Sounds like those are for a sign up form. These are just people who have signed up for my Substack newsletter and I want to include them on my Klaviyo mailing list so that in the future I can segment them. Is there no way to just add info about each person manually?Thanks!!Lora

Thank you so much Jessica! I found the default properties under Information but when I click on one nothing happens so I don’t know how to add information.And if I add a custom property I don’t know how to make it accessible for other profiles. For example if I have Property: gender  Value: female do I need to enter that for every profile or will Klaviyo then make a field for gender that I can use for every profile.Thanks much for your expertise!Lora

I think I’m finally understanding! I can type anything directly into the properties field so that becomes a free text field. But as you say it’s difficult to segment on that so better to break it down into several properties. But what does the “value” mean? I put “high” but I’m not sure that is what is meant by “value”. Here is a screen shot of what I did. Thanks so much for your patience with my learning curve.

Thank you Akers Digital for your response. I don’t yet have a Shopify store and won’t for a while so I’d like to keep my subscribers to my mailing list on Klaviyo. You wrote:     “ If you’re using Klaviyo, that would be another great place to store this type of information on customers using various custom properties over there.”I found the “custom properties” field but did not see how to enter any free text. Thanks David, I’ll try to create a custom profile property. I’ll also look into  “pass a custom event just to keep track of their notes and correspondence.”I guess this makes Klaviyo a bit more like a Salesforce app although I’ve never used that.Thank again!!Lora

Where do i put the text? In 'custom property"? I did not see a place to enter free text. Any suggestions?“In another case, I’ve also seen members pass a custom event just to keep track of their notes and correspondence. The notes for the interaction would be stored as the event metadata. This allowed them to go back and see a historic timeline of the notes and interactions.” Where do i find ‘custom event’? Where do I find metadata?Thanks for any guidance you can give me.-Lora

Hello Bluesnapper!Thank you for your response. So to confirm,  "you can add active profiles beyond the limits of your current Klaviyo plan but you’ll only be able to email up to the plan’s monthly email send limit." So I can add as many "profiles" as I like. And I can "segment" the list ie friends, customers etc as long as I don't send anything to anyone? To answer your question:"My only question is why you would want to upload contacts (profiles) in Klaviyo now if you do not intend to use Klaviyo for email capture, campaigns, and flows just yet?..." My answer is that I am using Substack for my monthly newsletter to promote my upcoming book, and they have their own ecosystem that encourages subscribers and I like their platform. However Substack has essentially zero segmentation. Once the book comes out and I start selling it and other merch, I'll want to use Shopify and segment my list. So at that point I'll probably start sending out emails from Klaviyo or use both platforms. Hopeful
