Welcome Series and Abandoned Series - Smart Sending on one of them?

Forum|alt.badge.img+3

When someone enters our 4-email Welcome Series, they are generally also going to be considering making a purchase, so they will likely end up in one of our abandonment flows - browse, cart, or checkout. This could lead to a lot of emails in a short period of time, so would you prioritize one flow over the other by adding Smart Sending to one of the flows?

For example, if after Welcome Email 1 someone Adds to Cart, they will start the 3-email Add to Cart series while they are also continue to get the Welcome Series emails 2-4. This feels like too much in someones inbox.

My initial thought is to prioritize making sure the abandonment flow emails get to the prospect over the welcome series emails because they are lower funnel and higher purchase intent. Thoughts?

Hi @riaeyewear !

Happy to provide some additional guidance here.

It sounds like you have 4 flows - a Welcome Flow, Browse Abandonment, Abandoned Cart, and Abandoned Checkout. And you want to ensure that profiles aren’t receiving too many emails within a short amount of time. The best way to do this would be to add some flow filters to each flow so that they are only able to enter one of these flows at a time. Here are the filters I would suggest adding for each flow:

  1. Browse Abandonment
  1. Abandoned Cart
  1. Abandoned Checkout

Please feel free to adjust the ‘Has not been in flow in the last ____ days’ to whatever length you feel is best. If you don’t want anyone to enter your flow more than once in 1 week, then do 7 days. One month, do 30. etc.

If you add these filters to each flow, this means that if a profile proceeds with adding an item to their cart, they would exit the browse abandonment flow and enter the abandoned cart flow. If they then proceed with starting a checkout, they would exit the abandoned cart flow and enter the abandoned checkout.

Also, if you want a profile to exit your welcome flow when they place an order, you can just add a flow filter that says ‘Has Placed Order zero times since starting this flow’

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any additional questions!

Hi @riaeyewear ,

You’re absolutely on the right track in prioritizing abandonment flows over the Welcome Series since they indicate higher purchase intent. Adding Smart Sending to your Welcome Series is a great solution to reduce email overload.

Additionally, consider these adjustments:

  1. Pause or Delay Welcome Emails: Use conditional splits or delays to pause the Welcome Series when someone enters an abandonment flow.
  2. Segment by Behavior: Prioritize emails based on the recipient's most recent action, ensuring the right message is sent at the right time.

This way, you can maintain a seamless experience without overwhelming the prospect. Let me know if you’d like more detailed suggestions!

Thanks @NOAH MERCY -- appreciate the insight! Could we also use additional filters in each email after Welcome 1, like Added to Cart zero times since starting this flow to only send to people who are still higher up the funnel?
