Exit Intent for those who don't action Sign-up Pop-up
I’m looking to set up an Exit Intent, to serve to people who don’t fill in our standard Welcome Sign-up form that has a 10% off coupon (7 day expiry).
The Exit Intent would offer 15% off but with a 24-48 hour expiry.
I’m trying try work out how to best target these people. I was thinking of targeting a segment for the Exit Intent, with the segment capturing people who have not Submitted Form with Welcome Sign-up ID in past 5 days (the Sign-up Frequency is set to 5 days).
Any advice as to if this is the best way or if another path might be better? TIA!

Hi @MMacca,
You’re creating that segment so you can only show your form to that segment specifically, right? If so, it might be a better idea to make a segment of everybody who DID fill out the form, and hide the form from that segment.
The reason for this is that if you only show the form to a segment of people who didn’t fill out the original form, the form will only show to profiles that Klaviyo can identify, who we know didn’t fill out the form. We won’t show the form to any new site visitors that aren’t even a profile in Klaviyo yet. You can get around this by creating a segment of everybody who did fill out the form, and excluding that segment from seeing your other form - that way, the form shows to nearly everybody, including new site visitors.
Also, in your second form, I’d recommend setting up the targeting so somebody has to navigate to two pages before seeing the form - you don’t want your original form and exit intent form to show to people at the same time.
Hi @Byrne C,
Thanks for this advice! Just checking, do you think this is the best way to do it with a segment? I’m just asking as I know it will take a while for a segment to update, and so it might not have a chance to exclude people who have signed up a minute ago? Is that correct?
If the above is true, perhaps I should also add another condition for that segment, that they have to have been signed up for at least 24 hours? Or even less, 1 hour?
Thanks!
Hey @MMacca,
You bring up a good point - usually takes a minute or so for people to enter segments, so that would be a potential flaw in the plan.
Because of this, you might want to instead set your form to “Don’t show to existing Klaviyo profiles.” Once somebody submits a form, they instantly become a profile in Klaviyo, despite it taking a minute for them to enter their relevant segments. That way, your exit intent form won’t risk showing to people who do submit the form, which automatically makes them Klaviyo profiles that we can track.
I recognize this isn't a perfect workaround, but this might be your best bet!
Hi @Byrne C,
Thanks again - that’s a great idea! Just been mulling this over… is there any way to stop both pop-ups showing at the same time? I’m thinking of the instance where someone chooses not to do fill in the 1st sign-up form, so it collapses to a teaser in the corner. They click 2 pages and are then served the Exit Intent when they try to leave - but the teaser would still be in the corner. Is there any way to avoid that?
Thanks for all your help on this!
The best way to do this would be to enable form collision prevention. On your main sign-up forms page https://www.klaviyo.com/forms, click the gear in the top right, and you’ll see a box that says “Don’t show multiple forms at the same time.” You’ll see a couple options: Show only one form per session, or Show next form after a time delay. You can select a certain number of seconds/minutes/hours before the second form shows. For your purposes, I’d recommend setting it anywhere between 30 seconds and 2 minutes:
We have a guide here that goes a bit more in-depth on this.
Sorry for the delay - thanks so much for this, great advice! @Byrne C
