I  switched from mailchimp to Klayvio about 2 months ago and my bounce rate for APPLE addresses is climbing fast.
I started to trouble shoot today with my own icloud address, signed up on the klayvio pop up on my site and then did a test email to the new icloud address. I received neither the welcome flow email for sign up or the test email. they are just not there.  SO I’m not sure what to do but I 100% did not have this issue on Mailchimp.  I read through some previous threads on the topic which does seem to be a problem, but they always say resolved with no info.
TY in advance

Hi @barbiedoll

Welcome to the community - there are lots of people that can help you.

Let’s start with some basic checks:

  • I assume that you checked the spam folder, or equivalent, and the email you sent isn’t there either?
  • Have you managed the onboarding by yourself? Have you completed the setup of a branded sending domain?
  • When you migrated contacts from Mailchimp and imported into Klaviyo, how did you do that?
    • If you imported contacts into Lists, did you configure single or double-opt-in?
    • For the form you tested, check the consent settings against the List you linked to it. Are you certain you didn’t receive an email asking you to opt-in to receive emails?
  • Have you implemented a dedicated click-tracking domain?
  • Can you tell us a little more about the email content you’re sending - is it equal parts text/copy and imagery? Or is it all an image?

That’s a few questions, so lets start with that. Once you answer we’ll dig a little deeper.

Thanks,

Ross

hey Ross,
hopefully I answer everything.
branded sending domain is set up
I do not have a double opt in.
I had my developer and a klaviyo rep do the migration and set up.
It’s about equal parts text and image.
confused on the click tracking but when I hover a link, this is what it looks like

As for the icloud .com email I set up for myself to trouble shoot, I  did not receive the welcome email (for pop up signup) or the test campaign I sent. Not in junk , it’s nowhere. Completely blocked. It’s definitely specific to Apple, I have only a few other bounces all total but 300+ for apple.
Also, I did sent a plain old test email from the same email address I use in klaviyo from my desktop and that email was icloud received. so it’s just the promotional emails from klaviyo. I understand the bounce message is CS01 but that could be a few things. When I talked with Apple they thought I should request more information and according to apple “If the message is not received, the email provider should follow the bounce message’s instructions on why the message is still being blocked, that should be included in the bounce message.”
what I am really baffled by is the klaviyo support rep who’s advice to suppress all of the apple “Never engaged” emails. Well, as I pointed out, I didn’t get the emails, so how could I engage? Don’t want to throw away customers.
would love any and all help to straighten it out. :)

Hi @barbiedoll

Starting with the click tracking domain, you can ask support to setup the dedicated click tracking (https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001550572#h_01J946JY3WTT5F70T3B9BHRB92). It’s unlikely this is the root cause of the issues you’re facing, but worthwhile having it updated as it will add a little extra to your deliverability performance.

As for why you’re not receiving those icloud/apple emails - would you mind sharing where the form is? I’ll give it a try and let you know what I receive for a couple of email addresses!

Others more experienced than I with warming up your new (to Klaviyo) sending domain, but some general ideas and advice:

  • Create an icloud.com specific Flow, within which the content is quite basic. Mainly text. If other email domains are receiving your emails and the content is a little more “complex”, this might reveal it’s a content issue that Apple are flagging.
  • Have support verified that your sending domain is configured 100% correctly? DKIM, TXT, DMARC records etc?

Thanks Ross,
I have asked Klaviyo to set up dedicated click tracking and it done and verified.
I’m not sure what you are asking for re:form? It would be any campaign or flow.
I actually did tests this morning on  dedicated campaigns and they were Icloud received. good news.
if I look back at where the bulk of the bounces occured, we had a little kerfuffle with the correct email list and accidentally ended up dumping our entire email list into the welcome flow, so that was the HUGE apple bounce. Secondary was the regular campaign that was sent out a day later, so definitely related. So campaigns “might “ be ok? But the welcome flow is still bouncing out and that I don’t know how to address. The website is getdressedcollective.com if you want to register and see if you get welcome emails. That’s all I got, other Klaviyo responding to my support email saying the apple email issue is a known problem they are working on 🙄

Hi @barbiedoll,

Just wanted to give you a quick update about this issue! I know it’s been frustrating seeing this higher bounce rate from Apple - definitely want to be sure you can email all your Apple contacts ASAP. The good news is that from what you’ve explained, you’ve been doing everything correctly. The issue arises from a very recent pattern we’ve noticed, where Apple is bouncing a larger number of emails than expected in some situations. While I don’t have a specific fix for you right now, our team is working to resolve this, and we do expect a resolution soon. We’ll keep you in the loop on this one.
