Good question! Whether you should use the Profile filter or Conditional Split really depends on whether you’re looking to email or SMS both New Customers and Returning Customers, or just one of them.
If the intent of the Flow is only emailing returning customers, then the Profile filter works just fine.
However, sometimes I’ll leave the profile filters out and still use the conditional split because I feel it will make the Flow easier to understand for anyone new coming to edit in the future.
If the intent of the Flow is to include and send different content to both groups, then use the conditional split, adding different email actions under each branch.
There is another more advanced approach, whereby you use show/hide logic within email content blocks to show different content to different groups, but to start answering with point 1 or 2 above should see you well.
