Hi folks,

I can see that we can set up a branded domain on Klaviyo. I plan to use a subdomain for all promotions, flows, and campaigns. Something like promos@genius.fetchprofits.com.

The store uses WooCommerce though. For transactional emails the existing “from address” looks like wordpress@fetchprofits.com -- not something I’d like to use (also looks wonky when it lands in an Inbox).

How do I add a dedicated subdomain to be used for transactional email sends? An email like store@trans.fetchprofits.com ?

Any advice would be much appreciated

Many thanks

Hi @fetchprofits when you go through the wizard to set up branded domain described here  it will ask you which subdomain you wish to use and then updates it in the DNS.

Unfortunately according to here

A single account can only have one branded sending domain.

Is it important that transactional email sends use a distinct subdomain?  They will inherently use distinct IP address than the marketing emails if that is the important factor.

Got it. From what little I realized now, I believe we should use a branded domain (complete with DMARC) set up for the sub domain we intend to use for the promo emails. This takes care of the one branded domain per Klaviyo account.

For the transactional emails on WooCommerce, it’s recommended to use a separate service such as ZeptoMail by Zoho, MailJet, MailPoet, SendLayer, and others.

Is my understanding correct? @whereisjad

@fetchprofits If you are utilizing an external service solely to circumvent the limitation of not having distinct subdomains in Klaviyo, is this primarily for SEO reasons? Additionally, this approach may result in a loss of a unified view of customer interactions, as all email communications would be fragmented across multiple platforms.

@whereisjad No, not for SEO reasons; it’s more for email deliverability reasons specifically for transational emails (the ones such as Order received, thank you fr the order, and so on).

Right now, these transactional emails go out by just using naked defaults. No SMTP, No infrastructure, no warming, no domain reputation, No DMARC authentication for those.

Klaviyo -- and the branded domain used there -- is to be used for promotional purposes only -- like flows, campaigns, newsletters. Correct?

Yes for every email delivered from Klaviyo it will use the same branded subdomain but there is a special designation you could make for flow messages if the email is transactional.
