Dear Peeps,

My name is Talha Hussain, and I’d love to share my unique journey into the world of Salesforce and Klaviyo. Like many of you, my career has been a winding path of exploration and growth, and I hope this inspires those of you who are navigating similar journeys.

Where It All Started: My Background in Computer Science

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. My early interest in technology led me to pursue an internship in .NET development, where I began honing my skills as a developer. However, my professional life took an unexpected turn, as I soon transitioned into the world of Salesforce CRM about four years ago.

Discovering Salesforce: Administrator to Developer

What started as a role in Salesforce Administration quickly grew into a passion for the Salesforce ecosystem. Over the years, I gained experience as a Salesforce Administrator, ensuring smooth CRM operations and data management for businesses. This naturally progressed into learning Apex development, where I now build robust, customized solutions on the Salesforce platform.

Currently, I work full-time as a Salesforce Administrator and Developer, handling everything from automating workflows and creating complex customizations to managing the CRM system. I have enjoyed working on challenging Salesforce projects, and it has become a field where I feel confident and experienced.

Venturing into Klaviyo Marketing

Interestingly, email marketing wasn’t my primary area of interest. I started exploring Klaviyo purely as a way to earn extra income. Initially, I focused on managing email campaigns, segmenting audiences, and improving engagement metrics for clients.

To my surprise, I began appreciating the creative and analytical aspects of email marketing. Klaviyo’s platform intrigued me with its powerful APIs and automation capabilities, which eventually led me to delve into Klaviyo development.

Bringing Development Skills to Klaviyo

My technical background in Salesforce and .NET provided me with a strong foundation for exploring Klaviyo’s development side. I’ve gained hands-on experience in:

  • Setting up custom integrations using Klaviyo’s APIs.
  • Automating workflows between Klaviyo and other platforms.
  • Personalizing campaigns with dynamic data and advanced segmentation.
  • Debugging and optimizing flows to ensure seamless performance.

While I still consider Salesforce my primary expertise, my Klaviyo experience has added a valuable skill set to my portfolio.

Balancing Two Worlds

Today, I balance my roles as a Salesforce Administrator/Developer and a part-time Klaviyo Email Marketing Specialist/Developer. Both fields have taught me different aspects of solving business challenges—Salesforce has been my go-to for operational excellence, while Klaviyo has introduced me to the world of customer engagement and personalization.

My Advice to the Community

  1. Be Open to Opportunities: Sometimes, what starts as a side hustle (like email marketing for me) can open up new doors.
  2. Leverage Your Core Skills: My development experience helped me excel in Klaviyo faster. Always find ways to apply your existing skills to new domains.
  3. Never Stop Learning: Whether it’s Apex development in Salesforce or working with APIs in Klaviyo, staying curious has kept my career dynamic and exciting.

I’m thrilled to be a part of the Klaviyo community and continue learning from all of you. If anyone wants to chat about Salesforce, Klaviyo development, or balancing multiple roles, feel free to connect!

Conclusion

My journey is proof that it’s okay to branch out and explore new areas of expertise. Whether you’re a developer, marketer, or administrator, platforms like Klaviyo and Salesforce offer incredible opportunities to grow.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to engaging with this amazing community!

Best,
Talha Hussain

Nice! I think the development side is a very under appreciated skillset for improvement as marketers. Do you have any examples of workflows you created with Klaviyo and other platforms?
