Will Suppressed Profiles Still Trigger Flows Under Klaviyo’s New Pricing Model?

Hi everyone,

With Klaviyo’s new pricing update, I’m planning to suppress profiles that haven’t subscribed within the past 180 days to optimize costs. However, I’m concerned about whether suppressed profiles will still be able to trigger automated flows if they take an action on our website.

For example, if a suppressed profile adds a product to their cart, will they still receive the abandoned cart flow emails? Similarly, will suppressed profiles be able to enter post-purchase or browse abandonment flows if they engage with the site?

Would love to hear if anyone has tested this or received clarification from Klaviyo support.

Thanks in advance!

Maggie

Hi @Maggie.Ever

To @HayleyR point, suppressed contacts are not eligible for any marketing in your account. If they start a checkout or place an order, Klaviyo will automatically skip over these contacts.

But also keep in mind, consent. In this case, a suppressed contacts will be excluded from receiving emails, but their consent would still be subscribed. If for example, you manually remove the suppression, that contact would then be eligible to receive marketing messages again. However, if a contact was unsubscribed, meaning they had explicitly opted out of marketing messages, if you remove the suppression, their consent status is unsubscribed and they would still not be eligible to receive marketing messages.

In either case, suppressed and unsubscribed contacts do not count toward your monthly Active Profiles for billing, and neither would be eligible for any campaigns, flows, or transactional messages.

But to Hayley’s point, Never Subscribed, has an implicit opt-in, which would allow them to be marketed to.

A lot of different terminology, but I hope this helps!

Hi There - thanks for reaching out to the community!

Profiles that are supressed are not able to trigger email or sms flows within the account. It is important to note the difference between ‘never subscribed’ and ‘supressed’ profiles though. If these profiles are being created in your account and are listed as ‘never subscribed’ they will indeed count to your profile balance for billing purposes, as they can still receive transactional flows.

I would recommend first completing a list clean via identifying those who are currently subscribed but not engaged. You may find that this reduces your profile count down significantly - with the added bonus of boosting your overall deliverability.

Some great foundational list cleaning strategies can be found here - How to clean your email list to maintain good deliverability | Klaviyo Help Center.

Feel free to ask any other questions! Keen to hear how you go :)

Hi @Maggie.Ever ,

Great question! Suppressing profiles in Klaviyo means they will no longer receive emails, even if they trigger a flow. Here’s what you need to know:

How Suppressed Profiles Work in Flows

  1. Abandoned Cart & Browse Abandonment – If a suppressed profile adds a product to their cart or browses a product, they will NOT receive the flow emails. Suppression means they are opted out of all email communications.

  2. Post-Purchase Flows – Even if a suppressed profile makes a new purchase, they will NOT receive order confirmation or follow-up emails from Klaviyo.

  3. Re-Engagement? – If a suppressed user opts back in (e.g., signing up again through a form), they will be unsuppressed and can start receiving emails.

Alternative Approach

Instead of suppressing all profiles, consider segmenting inactive users and running a win-back campaign before suppression. This way, you can try to re-engage some before removing them.
