Dividing Lists Into Equal Segments or Vice Versa

Forum|alt.badge.img

I own a comedy club and use klaviyo’s sms service to send out free ticket offers. My sms list is small (850) but it’s growing quickly. The club only holds 90 people and I don’t want to send out free ticket offers to everyone, every time. I’d like to divide my list into segments of 200 each. This way I can send out free ticket offers to different groups every week. How would I go about doing that?

Hi @MyKlee,

There are a couple ways to do this. Both would require a bit of work, and have their upsides and downsides, but I’ll explain each option.

Option 1 would be to export your list into a CSV file, and then split it up into 4-5 different lists, in different files. From there, upload each of them into a different Klaviyo list. This is a one-time fix, as you’ll continue to have more people enter your master lists, so by the time you want to send another campaign days/weeks later, this would need to be done again.

Option 2 is to go into your list and select “Manage List”, then “Sample list members”. This will allow you to create a sample list with any number of members of your choice. You can choose 200, and it’ll create a list of 200 random members of your list that you can send campaigns to. You can continue to do this, and it’s a pretty quick process. The downside here is that it’s random, so out of those 200 people, there will always be a percentage who have already received free ticket offers. That being said, done enough times, and you’ll be sending free ticket offers to everyone at a relatively equal rate.

Let me know if you have any follow-up questions about this! Happy to help out more, if so.

Hi @MyKlee

Instead of dividing your SMS list to randomly selected profiles, I would recommend you segment it based on characteristics. Also, you might want to take into consideration that you don’t always have to send out a free ticket! Sometimes your loyal customers will be happy to come without a free ticket.

Suggestion:

Create a segment of customers that redeemed your free ticket in the past. Call this segment “Redeemed Free Ticket”. Then, send them a reminder or a PSA text to your next show (without a free ticket). Add urgency to encourage ticket selling. “Tickets are going fast, secure your ticket now”.

Trying to figure out which customer redeemed their free ticket would require matching Klaviyo’s “clicks” to phone numbers from attendees in Eventbrite. That would be a long process. I understand your point though. Thanks.

I think the random list might work better for me than you actually intended! That is a great way to send out a free ticket offer to a random group of people every time. It doesn’t have to be 200. It could even be half the audience, but it will always be a RANDOM half of the audience. And that’s what I’m going for. I don’t want to send out to everyone, every time. This may work. THANK YOU!!!
