Huge gap between mobile and desktop popup submit rates

Hi all,

I’ve been running separate popups for desktop and mobile. The offer is always the same: 10%.

However, the gap between the submit rates is huge. Desktop has never been above 1.5%, while mobile is usually around 6%.

About two years ago, our desktop submit rate dropped significantly from around 3.5% to 1%, or even below 1%. Since then, I’ve tested everything: design, placement, time delay, etc., but nothing has helped.

Mobile collects SMS subscribers, while desktop collects email subscribers. I also reached out to support, but they don’t see any issues on their side.

Has anyone had a similar experience or found a way to solve this?

Hey ​@MariaNik 

we have seen this often. Usually, Desktop users also tend to have more ad blockers and popup suppressors running, which could be suppressing views you're not even counting, making your submit rate look worse than it is.

The drop two years ago is interesting though. did you start running paid ads? that traffic typically converts much lower on popups. I would also suggest you check whether anything changed around that time, a klaviyo update, or a theme change?

One thing worth testing: try switching the desktop popup to collect SMS too, just as a short experiment. If the rate jumps, you have your answer. It's less about the device and more about what you're asking people to give up.
