Hi - We are new to Klaviyo and are just setting it up, have integrated with our Magento store as well as Mailchimp. There are now 2 lists created in Klaviyo - one from Mailchimp and the other named as the default Newsletter which is syncing from Magento.

However, Mailchimp has not been synced with our store for about a year so there may be issues with unsubscribed contacts not synced between the 3 platforms. We have been using Mailchimp to send newsletters without the store sync.

This would make the Mailchimp list up to date with the contacts who have unsubscribed, but not our Magento store.

We have some questions:

How can we make sure we will not be contacting anyone who has opted out from any list?

Should we merger the 2 lists to create a Master list?

The default Newsletter list is much larger than the Mailchimp list - is there a reason for this?

Should we delete all lists or the account and start again so we have a clean contact list

Thank you in advance.

Hey @Dermacare! I’m so sorry about the confusion with those two integrations and lists. I’d be happy to help clear this up!

How can we make sure we will not be contacting anyone who has opted out from any list?

By default, anyone who unsubscribes from a message sent through Klaviyo will be suppressed for all emails. (The only exception here is if you’ve turned “Global Unsubscribes” off in your account settings.) You can also upload a suppression list that includes everyone who has unsubscribed in Mailchimp -- that will “suppress” them in Klaviyo, so they won’t receive any future emails.

Should we merger the 2 lists to create a Master list?

That’s up to you! There are definitely some benefits to having a single main list: it’s easier to stay organized and know how many subscribers you have. Here’s how to merge lists without triggering your welcome flow

The default Newsletter list is much larger than the Mailchimp list - is there a reason for this?

It’s hard to say without knowing the full history of your account. If you’ve used Klaviyo’s sign up forms, each form would only sync to one list. Also, if profiles were synced from different integrations, they may only be in one list.

Should we delete all lists or the account and start again so we have a clean contact list

That’s not necessary -- combining the lists and uploading a suppression list of everyone who unsubscribed in Mailchimp should clean your account up sufficiently :)

Hope this helps!

Elise

@Dermacare hey there! We are migrating from a Mailchimp/Magento setup to Klaviyo as well! Would love to know how you all dealt with importing in your purchasers into Klaviyo since Mailchimp doesn’t push over previous purchaser data. Maybe we can talk shop!!

Hi @X-Chair Marketing  - we did not need to import purchasers from Mailchimp. We integrated Magento with Klaviyo and historical customer information including purchaser data is imported. Hope that helps!

Hi @X-Chair Marketing,

To echo @Dermacare’s comment, since you are using Mailchimp as your ESP and Magento as your ecommerce platform, you can leverage Klaviyo’s integration with both platforms.

By integrating with Mailchimp, you can sync over your mailing lists, unsubscribe list, and engagement data (last open/last click dates). You will also want to manually sync over any Mailchimp tags and email templates, if interested. Here’s our guide on migrating from Mailchimp to Klaviyo.

Your transaction data will sync to Klaviyo with the Magento integration. Here’s our help article on what data syncs to Klaviyo with this integration.

Have a nice weekend!

Julie
