Hi @David To,Sure thing!For everyone who’s interested, we haven’t gotten to the crux of the issue yet but I did learn something very cool from one of Klaviyo’s awesome support specialists, Jeff.If you want to set a profile property that consists of another profile property, you can use the Call Webhook step and call Klaviyo’s own Identify API. How cool is that! Should Klaviyo support profile properties of type object?

I agree about creating segments but it isn’t any different than filtering an event by its properties.Events are already stored as objects so there’s a path there.Well, maybe there needs to be a limit to the number of nested objects you can have–an event only has one level of properties I believe.I’m sure this question has been asked before and I’m sure there’s a feature request for it, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. If anyone can locate the feature request, I’d upvote it in a heartbeat!

Should Klaviyo support profile properties of type object?

Hi Alex!Thanks for the response.I understand that Klaviyo doesn’t support this right now and I’m not looking for a workaround. I think built-in support for nested properties is the only solution.In an ideal world, nested profile properties would be segmented in a similar manner to how it works for “What some has or has not done” (as you mentioned).Is there a way to upvote this product request? Cheers,Kevin. P.S. For anyone interested, here’s a screenshot showing the how the “What someone has or has not done” works–this is a very helpful feature and I wish this type of filtering could be applied to nested profile properties!!

Hi @mari17,Check out Metric-based flows! https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003057151You can setup an API call (track endpoint) to trigger a new event for each profile, and the flow will pick it up and message them accordingly.Your scenario sounds very similar to a cart-confirmation email which is one of the main use cases for metric-based flows.I’m rather busy at the moment so I can’t give you step-by-step instructions, but I saw your post and I’m sure metric-based flows are the way to go.Cheers,Kevin.

Using Zapier to subscribe to Klaviyo List (name, email, phone_number & sms_consent)

Hi @ecorising,I’m not a Python expert, but I understand JSON and the way your profile array is setup it’s definitely creating two profiles.The email, phone number, and sms_consent should all be within the same object. Which means they should all be within the same curly brackets.Here is an updated snippet. Just replace this with what you currently have for the profiles variable and give that a shot. Hi @Zintegrations,I don’t have any solid answers for you, but I wanted to chime in and express my frustration with the phone number validation on Klaviyo.I posted this topic a few weeks ago:  I didn’t get any concrete responses other than the following: I see that you had reached out through our Community recently about an issue you were seeing with bulk loads that encountered errors due to a bad email/phone number. I've had a chance to touch base with my team about this, and we don't exactly have a list of values that aren't accepted. With that being said, Phone Numbers synced must be in E.164 format, and Emails must contain an @ to be considered valid. There isn't any pre-built logic we have to exclude those invalid email/phone numbers. One suggestion would be to either build out, or work with your developers to build, conditional logic that will remove any profiles who don't have the accepted formatting I mentioned above. So long as this occurs prior to the bulk API request, then th

Terminal: 'email or phone number is a required field for each profile'

Hi @LoisZ,I believe this is a problem with the docs as they aren’t perfectly clear. The issue in your code is you’re trying to create 4 different contacts, each with one piece of information (email, phone, first name, last name).Each profile should be a single object in the `profiles` array.Your body should look like…body: JSON.stringify({ profiles: [{email: Email, phone_number: phoneNumber, FNAME: firstname, LNAME: lastname}] })i.e., one object with all four fields in it.Hope that makes sense!Cheers,Kevin.

Hi @Haneef,1.) Almost everything is possible with Klaviyo 😉. But seriously, check out Klaviyo’s suite of APIs to understand whether Klaviyo will work for your use case. I have a custom built app and I use Klaviyo for marketing purposes and to send some transactional emails, but Klaviyo is not a transactional email service so I still have Mailchimp/Mandrill to send purely transactional emails. 2.) Check out the Domains & Hosting page in your settings tab. That will walk you through setting up a dedicated sending domain. Hope that helps.Cheers,Kevin.

Hi @Haneef, Yes, I have a few of my flows converted to transactional. I send Klaviyo events using the events API (https://developers.klaviyo.com/en/reference/track-post), and have Metric-based flows that pick up the event and fire off an email.

Hi @newday,For you, the issue is definitely the `555` after the area code. Any number with XXX-555-XXXX is not considered a valid phone number (not just by Klaviyo).Cheers,Kevin.

Custom APP - API call into Klaviyo

Hi @jadebiscuit,First, love your username 😄It is certainly feasible to create a custom integration into Klaviyo that would create/update user information (“Profiles” as Klaviyo calls them). And you can update opt-in / opt-outs via the API too.However, Klaviyo just updated all of their API docs so I don’t know the most up-to-date endpoints to use.My application uses the lists API to handle these. Primarily I use the list/subscribe endpoint for new profiles, and the list/members endpoint for profile updates and preference updates.All of the API documentation can be found here: https://developers.klaviyo.com/en/reference/api_overviewCheers,Kevin.

Klaviyo versus Sendgrid, Mailgun (or others) for sending transactional email

Hi @spaceman,For me, a transactional email service requires the ability to trigger sending emails via an API.As it stands right now, Klaviyo is not a transactional email service.I use Klaviyo for some transactional emails in order for my marketing team to have better visibility (to keep communications to our users in one place). I do that by triggering Klaviyo events via their events API.However, we still use Mandrill (Mailchimp’s transactional service) as a transactional email service. We do that so we can trigger the emails directly from the code.I am familiar with both SendGrid and Mailgun, and recently setup a client on Send in Blue and I enjoyed that experience a lot too.All in all, you can force Klaviyo into a transactional service, but that’s not the purpose.Cheers,Kevin.

How to get all profiles with just one call API?

Hi @tungnk,I’ve never used the Get Profiles endpoint, but looking at the documentation, it’s clear that it can’t return all profiles in a single API call. You’ll need to use the pagination parameter to fetch more profiles after the first 20. They document how pagination works here: https://developers.klaviyo.com/en/reference/api_overview#pagination.So my advice would be to run your calls in a loop–fetch 20 profiles, then each subsequent call asks for 20 more profiles until there are no pages left.Not as convenient, but it’s pretty standard to limit the number of response records so nothing out of the ordinary. Cheers,Kevin.

Hi @Stef,I haven’t used the PHP library so I might not be the most helpful here, but what you have looks correct to me.The only thing I can suggest is getting rid of the `properties` prop, like this…$body = array( 'list_id' => 'LIST_ID', 'profiles' => array( array( 'email' => 'user@example.com', '$first_name' => 'John', '$last_name' => 'Doe', ), ),);Here is an example JSON body I used just this morning… it’s a slightly different endpoint, but I think it gives you an idea of how it works...{ "profiles": [ { "email": "testing@example.comcom", "sample_property": "a value" } ]}Let me know.Cheers,Kevin.

I took a look at the documentation for the PHP SDK. The subscribe profiles snippet is linking to this Klaviyo API: https://developers.klaviyo.com/en/reference/subscribe_profiles.This API looks to be expecting a `subscriptions` property rather than a profile property… Have you tried that? Something like this…$body = array( 'list_id' => 'LIST_ID', 'subscriptions' => array( array( 'email' => 'user@example.com' ), ),);

time based emails

Hi @DWant,I don’t think it’s possible to setup a flow to wait until a specific date or wait until X days before a specific date. I’ve asked Klaviyo support about this before and they told me it’s a much requested feature but not something they’ve been able to build yet (I couldn’t find the thread, my apologies).However, from my experience of working with Klaviyo, I think you could achieve this with a dynamic segment that feeds a flow. The renewal date would need to be a profile property.Setup a segment that looks for “where profile.renewal_date is in the next 5 days.”  Setup a corresponding flow that’s based on this segment.That is the approach I would take.I’m curious to know how other people deal with this very common marketing use case!Cheers,Kevin.

Bug: Unable to filter emails containing "+" character in API

Hi @popsmash, Great question. I love the + trick for emails–I use it all the time and I know I’ve triggered events via the API with profiles with a  + in their email. I gave this a go with the link you shared (thanks for that, didn’t know about that filter syntax) and although it’s not working with a +, it’s working for me when I URL encode it to %2B. Try URL encoding again!! I didn’t encode the whole email address–just the +. Request URL: https://a.klaviyo.com/api/profiles?filter=equals(email,"testing%2B123@example.com") Cheers,Kevin.

For what it’s worth, this sounds like a helpful feature with an obvious use case, and the documentation should reflect that a profile’s ID can also be used as an identifier. @jballo919 what did your request body look like? Something like this?{  "data": {    "type": "event",    "attributes": {      "profile": {        "id": "{klaviyoProfileId}"      },      "metric": {        "name": "{event name}"      }    }  }}Cheers,Kevin.

Hey @jballo919,I wish I could help you more but I am not affiliated with Klaviyo in any official capacity! I am just a fellow developer that uses Klaviyo a lot and sometimes hangs out on the forums!Lets ping @David To on this one. He’s the community manager :) My opinion is that this functionality is intentional and will continue to be supported. From my experience, Klaviyo doesn’t update their developer documentation very frequently and it’s often lacking options/examples/advanced scenarios. Cheers,Kevin.
