Question

Sign up conversion

Hi team!

I have been working on my sign-up forms for some time and really struggling with our submission rates. I have tried:
AB testing (messaging, assets, optimisation of display logic)
Dividing messaging/display at market level (UK, EU, North Am)

We are entering a really high traffic moment and I want to ensure the sign up form is appealing to as many people as possible. I need some help as I feel like whatever I try, I am not seeing the results I am seeking (I am refraining from 10% off and instead offering sign up to win ‘a special prize’ which will most likely be a £50 gift card but I am hesitant to mention this in the sign up form due to international appeal.

Any clear, actionable suggestions are welcome, as opposed to suggestions to further testing as I feel like I am running out of variations on how to test and really am eager to see some improvement in results.

Thank you in advance!

Hi there @LizzieLizzie, thanks for reaching out! I can understand the frustration here. Given what you’ve already tested, I’d focus on one deliberate, low-friction version rather than another broad A/B test.

  1. Identify the drop-off point

Use the form analytics to compare:

  • Viewed to Step 1 engagement: low engagement usually points to the headline, offer, design, or timing.

  • Step 1 engagement to Submitted: a drop here often points to too many fields, unclear consent language, a weak CTA, or mobile friction.

  • Submitted to list growth: if these do not align, check double opt-in, consent, and tracking.

Klaviyo’s sign-up form analytics guide explains the step funnel and Submit rate. It suggests roughly 3% or higher as a general reference for popups and flyouts, while also considering subscriber quality.

  1. Make the prize concrete

“A special prize” may feel too vague. If it is a draw, try:

Enter for a chance to win a £50 gift card

Sign up for [brand] updates to enter.

CTA: Enter now

For other markets, use the local equivalent or “a gift card of equivalent value in your local currency” only if that matches the promotion terms. Link to the eligibility, closing date, winner selection, and territory restrictions. If you are avoiding a guaranteed discount, pair the draw with a guaranteed benefit such as early access or exclusive launch content.

  1. Remove friction

Use one required field, one clear benefit, and one CTA. Move preferences and extra questions to a later step or your welcome flow. If collecting email and SMS, use separate steps. On mobile, keep the copy short, use large tap targets and spacing, and remove nonessential imagery. See Klaviyo’s mobile form guidance.

  1. Protect the experience

Show the form to non-subscribers, suppress it after submission, and use a teaser after dismissal. Keep the form promise consistent with the ad or landing page that brought the visitor there.

For the peak period, I’d launch one version with a clear prize, one field, one CTA, mobile-first design, simple eligibility terms, and a welcome message confirming the entry.

I hope this helps!
