Hi everyone,

I’m trying to verify a dedicated sending domain. I created the subdomain “email.website.com”

In order to get the dedicated sending domain verified, I need to add a CNAME that uses “email” as the hostname. When I go to create this in the DNS manager, I get the error that an A record already exists using “email” as the host name, and that I may not mix CNAME records with other records for the same name.

Has anyone else run into this problem before? If so, is there a way around it?

I’m using cPanel and Hostgator

Thanks!

Hello @yourfriendcleo,

Thank you for sharing this with the Klaviyo Community.

Since there is an existing record that makes use of the “email” subdomain and each subdomain can only be dedicated to a single record, you cannot add another record which uses this same subdomain. Your best bet here is to use a different subdomain for your dedicated sending domain since. We have more information on that here.

Hope that is helpful!

Got it! I think I misunderstood then! So as I understand it now, the dedicated sending domain doesn’t need to be created as a subdomain within cPanel. It is established when I choose the prefix in Klaviyo and upload the CNAME & TXT records.

Is that correct?

Hi @yourfriendcleo,

Yes, that is correct!
