Question

Too many flow emails being skipped

I work for a smaller company so I only send about one campaign a week but I do have many Flows. Smart Sending is causing too many emails to be skipped. In fact more emails are being skipped than sent, and I know this shouldn’t be. There is no reason for that many emails to have been skipped (it just doesn't add up).

My Flows are very targeted, one profile is nearly impossible to receive multiple Flow emails. Has anyone else had this problem?

And yes, I have turned off Smart Sending to fix this issue for now, I would just like to know if this has come up for anyone else.

Hey @azerole

This is pretty common, and it usually has a simple cause. Smart Sending is the setting that skips an email if the person already got a marketing email from you recently, 16 hours by default. It doesn’t only look at your other flows. Your weekly campaign counts too (Understanding Smart Sending). So anyone who triggers a flow in the 16 hours after your campaign goes out gets skipped, even if they’re in no other flow. The same goes for two emails in one flow that are less than 16 hours apart.

Some of those skips may not be Smart Sending at all. Click on a flow email with lots of skips and use the skipped reasons dropdown to see why each person was skipped (skip reasons article).

I wouldn’t leave Smart Sending off for every flow, because then people can get your campaign and a flow email on the same day. Turn it off only on emails that need to arrive on time, like the first welcome email. Or shorten the window under Settings > Email > Sending preferences, keeping in mind that the change only applies to emails sent after you make it. Which flows are showing the most skips?

I hope this helps and thank you for sharing your question here in the community.
Cheers
Arpit.
