Question

Bulk suppression of 105,319 profiles not working – possible 90-day restriction after API unsuppression

Hello Klaviyo Community,

We are trying to reduce our active email profile count before selecting a paid plan.

On October 19, 2026, we used “Suppress current members” twice on a segment containing approximately 105,319 profiles. Both attempts displayed a green success confirmation, but our profile counts remained unchanged:

  • Active profiles: 108,126

  • Suppressed profiles: 5,573

We investigated several affected profiles and found the following history:

  • October 2, 2026: Manually suppressed via list import (LIST_IMPORT).

  • October 9, 2026: Manual suppression removed via API (added_by: API, method: PROFILE_MODIFICATION).

  • October 19, 2026: No successful new suppression recorded.

We understand that Klaviyo has a 90-day restriction on manually re-suppressing profiles after unsuppression, including bulk suppression of segments.

Our questions:

  1. Could this restriction explain why the bulk suppression appears successful but the profile counts do not change?

  2. Is there a supported way to identify how many profiles were skipped because of this restriction?

  3. Is there a supported way to suppress these profiles without waiting 90 days?

  4. How can we identify which API integration removed the original suppressions?

  5. Is there a way for a Free-plan customer to get technical assistance with this issue without upgrading first?

We use Magento 2 and need to keep customer/order synchronization intact. We do not want to delete customer profiles or accidentally enable marketing emails for contacts who have never subscribed.

Thank you for your help!

Update – We identified the cause of the API unsuppression on October 9

We have now reconstructed what happened:

  • October 2, 2026: We manually suppressed approximately 105,876 email profiles through a list import. We subsequently considered this bulk suppression to have been made in error.

  • October 9, 2026: To correct that mistake, we intentionally ran a Klaviyo API bulk unsuppression job using a temporary list containing 105,876 addresses. The job completed successfully (completed_count: 105876, skipped_count: 0). We intended to keep 21 separately protected addresses suppressed. No marketing consent was granted.

  • October 19, 2026: We attempted to suppress approximately 105,319 inactive/non-subscribed profiles using the segment bulk suppression function. Klaviyo displayed a success message, but the suppression totals did not increase.

We can therefore confirm that the October 9 API unsuppression was initiated by us, not by an unknown integration.

Our main question is now:

Is Klaviyo's 90-day restriction on manually re-suppressing previously unsuppressed profiles the reason our October 19 bulk suppression attempts had no effect?

If so, is there a supported way to resolve this situation earlier, given that the original suppression and subsequent unsuppression were part of an attempted database cleanup?

We want to retain our Magento 2 customer and order data, preserve legitimate newsletter subscribers, and reduce our active email profile count without granting marketing consent or deleting customer records.

We would appreciate clarification on the restriction and any supported solution.

Thank you!

Update – CSV comparison confirms overlap with the October 9 unsuppression group

We have completed an additional comparison of our CSV files.

Our current segment contains 105,319 profiles that we are trying to suppress.

The comparison shows:

  • 105,319 of 105,319 profiles (100%) are also present in the CSV used for our October 9 bulk unsuppression.

  • 0 profiles from the current segment are missing from that CSV.

  • 557 additional addresses from the earlier group are not included in the current segment.

  • None of our 21 separately protected addresses are included in the current segment.

The October 9 API bulk unsuppression job completed successfully, reporting 105,876 processed profiles and 0 skipped.

This provides strong evidence that the profiles we are now trying to suppress belong to the same group that was unsuppressed on October 9.

Our question is now more specific:

Can Klaviyo confirm whether the 90-day manual re-suppression restriction is preventing the bulk suppression of these 105,319 profiles?

If so, is there an officially supported way to resolve this situation before the 90-day period expires, without deleting customer profiles, changing marketing consent, or disconnecting our Magento 2 integration?

We would greatly appreciate guidance on how to proceed safely.

Thank you!

Welcome to the community @David88

From what you describe, I agree that this is down to Klaviyo’s 90-day suppression window. I’ve always assumed that this is limitation is to prevent accounts from “gaming” active subscribers to keep within a plan limit. Might be wrong...

It may be possible to ask Klaviyo to temp lift that restriction though I’ve never had to do that. The issue is for you is getting access to support as you’re not yet on a paid plan.

One option would be to delete the 105,319 profiles you want to suppress, though you state you don’t want to do that for some reason.

Deletion of course means you lose all profile history, though sounds like that’s not an issue for you?

If you decide deletion is the way to go, create a segement or list for them then head to https://www.klaviyo.com/settings/other/profile-maintenance and select that segement/list for deletion. To avoid unwanted results, please ensure your segement/list is correct before deleting as those profiles will not be recoverable!

I hope that helps.

Andy
