Hi All - what is the difference between ‘user suppressed’ and ‘unsubscribed’ in a suppression list? For example, in the below, a user submitted their email somewhere on our website earlier today, but is already in the ‘Suppressed List’ with the reason being ‘user suppressed’. How is that different than someone who unsubscribed? Thank you.

Hi @cbzhu ,

Thank you for sharing your query in the community!

Here’s the difference between "user suppressed" and "unsubscribed" in Klaviyo:

User suppressed: This indicates that any user with access to your Klaviyo account can manually suppress contacts or leads in the Klaviyo database. This action is reversible; suppressed contacts can be unsuppressed in the future.

Unsubscribed: This occurs when a recipient of an email clicks on the unsubscribe link, opting out of future communications. Unless the recipient resubscribes, you cannot send them any marketing emails in the future.

Both statuses result in the contact being added to the suppression list in Klaviyo.

Hope this helps!

Thank you! Do you know a user can become automatically suppressed? For these suppressed accounts I had shown in the screenshot, no one on our end had manually suppressed them.

Hi @cbzhu ,

Klaviyo automatically suppresses the profile when it experiences a hard bounce, as it signals a permanent email delivery issue.
