I have set up a lot of these different types of messages, and yes as you have said it’s so important to know the timings of the products coming in. 

Could you set up based on category or tag? So if someone has (for example) purchased a sofa with a leadtime of 15 weeks, you can have a different flow to someone buying a light with a leadtime of 2 weeks. 

If you have different products which fall into different categories but can be grouped by leadtimes, you could use tags (or even shopify tags) to fire a flow. So all 2week leadtimes have flow A, and 15 week leadtimes have flow B.

To follow up on ​@Victoria_ap_G ‘s suggestion, the best way to do this would be to add tags to these pre-order Placed Order events so that you can first identify the purchases that are pre-order, and then you can take it a step further and create tags based on the specific product and the lead time. For example, ‘pre-order 2-weeks’. Then, you could create a flow that is triggered by the Placed Order metric, and you can add a trigger filter that says ‘tags equals pre-order 2-weeks’. From there, you can have an order confirmation email letting the customer know when they can expect their order, then you can add a 2-week time delay and a second email after that delay that says their order has shipped, is ready to ship, etc.
