Hi, I’m new to using Klaviyo for my company’s newsletters and flows. My boss wants to add two new customers to the newsletter, but prevent them from receiving the welcome flow upon being added. Any insight into how I can do this?

Hi @mauvep

This is a common one with Klaviyo.

If your welcome flow is triggered by “Added to List,” then anyone you manually add to that list will enter the flow by default.

For just two contacts, the quickest fix is:
→  Add them to the list
→  Then go into the flow and manually remove/skip them so they don’t receive the emails

(Once you’ve added them to the list, here’s how to stop them from receiving the welcome flow:

  1. Go to your Welcome Flow
  2. Click into the first email in the flow
  3. Open the “View Details”→ Recipient Activity → Waiting and you should spot their names on there, hover over and it will show “preview” or “cancel send”. You would just cancel send.

If this is something you might need to do more often, a better long-term setup is to add a trigger filter to the flow. For example, you can create a profile property like “skip_welcome_flow = true” and exclude anyone with that from entering the flow.

That way you can safely add people to your newsletter without worrying about them getting the welcome sequence.

Hope this helps!

Hi, this did not work, it didn’t allow me an option to cancel send, only resend or preview. How do I prevent this from happening again

Yes, I immediately went into the recipient activity and the email had already immediately been sent.

The other way is to add in flow filters onto the flow to exclude those email addresses
