Hi everyone,

I want to ask do invalid email addresses automatically added to suppression list? Since my campaigns have “Skipped: Invalid Email Addresses” users but they are not added to suppression list so I wonder if this is the default behavior or it’s an error?

Thanks

Hi @alvin.nguyen! Great question. A skipped email from a hard bounce like an invalid email address signals a permanent email delivery issue, so Klaviyo will automatically suppress these profiles to help ensure your lists stay clean. Give the suppression 24 hours to register. If it’s still not suppressed there might be something else going on Support may need to investigate.

Hi Kaila,

Thanks for the info. The reason I’m asking because invalid emails in “skipped” from the campaigns sent weeks or months ago are still not suppressed. So I assume this would be some kind of errors and not the default behavior by Klaviyo. Can you help me to connect with Support to investigate this issue.

Thanks.

Yes! I’ve opened a ticket on your behalf. You should hear from them shortly. :)

Hello I have another question, how can we deleted this profile with invalid email? I assume I need to create a segment and then bulk delete it but I can’t find how to create a segment with invalid emails only.

Thanks for your answer!

Stéphanie

Hi @kaila.lawrence - I am having the same issue, where I have a good number of Skipped: Invalid Addresses who have not been automatically suppressed. I was searching to find if there was a way to pull down a segment based on this skip type so I could suppress them myself, but found this thread.

Hi @Steph from Georganics and @lizlegatt,

Hoping this helps!

I find the best way to ensure invalid emails are definitely excluded is to create a segment using the “Bounced Email” event and filter the event by type. You can use the system field “Bounce Type” to just filter by hard bounces or the $klaviyo_bounce_category field to get more granular and filter by Invalid Address.

Klaviyo should automatically suppress these but, as a safeguard, I apply an exclusion like this to all my campaigns to protect my deliverability (I also exclude recent soft bounces too). I don’t think there is a way to bulk delete or suppress profiles without contacting Klaviyo support, but an evergreen exclusion segment should prevent any of those invalid addresses sneaking in until support has removed them for you!

Good luck 💛
