Question

Why can't we use segments as a profile trigger in a flow?

Hi there, we’re trying to add a segment to some flows but it never shows - Claude says Klaviyo doesn’t allow segments in the Profile filters section.

Why?

Use case for Klaviyo: bots are starting checkouts with fake details, creating fake profiles and triggering our abandoned checkout flow. They caused 63 of our 90 bounced emails in the last two weeks.

A single "Bots" segment could be our one source of truth across Klaviyo: update it once, and every flow and campaign follows.

Instead, we either edit the filters in every flow by hand, or run an extra flow just to copy segment members onto a profile property we can filter on. Does anyone have time for that?

Or is there a simpler way of excluding bots from flows/campaigns?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers, Ben

You can create a new backend flow (call it Bots for example) and trigger it with that segment you want, then add profile properties to everyone who enter that segment for example property Bots value True or something like that. Then in your flows just use that property to filter those out.

If you can identify bot profiles have a separat flow running that triggers on that segment and suppresses everyone in that segment via a webhook.

That being said: Klaviyo itself is also automatically suppressing profiles if their internal system sees them as spam. So the more interesting question is why do the profiles you are seeing not qualify there. Might be worth checking out with the klaviyo support if you see a certain pattern that they don’t have in their algorithm for that.

Thanks guys, that’s what we’ve done and also installed an app on Shopify to block fake checkouts. And good tip about contacting support. Cheers
