Woocommerce Checkout: customers subscribed even if they don't check the box

Question

We have current versions of Woocommerce and the Klaviyo plugin on our site (everything else up to date as well). Klaviyo is set to show the “Subscribe to receive...” checkbox on the checkout page, and that all works properly. The box is not checked by default.

The problem is that even customers that do not check the box are added to the Klaviyo list and recieve a “Confirm Your Subscription” email. Obviously this would not be welcomed by a lot of users.

Has anyone else run into this problem? I suspect a plugin conflict, but I’m hoping someone will have a hint.
