Branded Sending Domain: All DNS Records Verified but INVALID_DOMAIN_ERROR

Hi Klaviyo Community,

I'm setting up a branded sending domain for my Shopify store and have encountered a verification issue.

Domain: send.minorauthority.shop
Klaviyo Account ID: Rm2vew
Sending Domain ID: 3444693

When I run Klaviyo's domain verification, all four DNS records individually return verified: true:

  • CNAME: send

  • CNAME: mtd1._domainkey

  • CNAME: mtd2._domainkey

  • TXT: @ (site verification)

However, the overall verification returns:

  • Verification state: failed

  • Error code: INVALID_DOMAIN_ERROR

  • Domain status: Pending

I've retried verification multiple times with the same result.

Could someone from the Klaviyo technical team help explain why the verification fails despite all four DNS records passing?

Is this a domain configuration issue or a Klaviyo-side verification error?

Thank you!

Hi @Minor Authority ,

Hope you’re doing well! Thanks for including the verification response. If the same verification job reports all four DNS records as verified: true but the overall state is still failed with INVALID_DOMAIN_ERROR, this doesn’t seem like a simple missing-record or propagation issue.

I would still check the following first:

  • Confirm that each returned value matches the values generated for this specific Klaviyo sending domain exactly, including the send CNAME, both DKIM CNAMEs, and the root klaviyo-site-verification TXT record.

  • Make sure the send hostname does not also have an A, AAAA, MX, or TXT record. A CNAME cannot coexist with other record types on the same hostname.

  • If the DNS provider is Cloudflare, set the Klaviyo CNAME records to DNS only rather than proxied.

  • Confirm that the DNS provider has not automatically duplicated the domain name in the host field.

  • Check whether the domain or an older sending-domain record is already associated with another Klaviyo account or is stuck in a previous pending state.

Klaviyo’s branded sending domain troubleshooting guide notes that the DNS values must match Klaviyo’s generated values exactly and that conflicting records on the sending hostname can prevent setup.

Let me know if those checks pass but the verification continues to fail.
