Question

What counts as a profile for "Don't show to existing profiles" in popup logic?

Hi! I am wondering what counts as a profile when using the “Don’t show to existing Klaviyo profiles” in popup triggering logic. Since we’re integrated with Shopify and every Shopify user creates a new Klaviyo profile, does that mean that any current shoppers who aren’t subscribed will never see our form? Or does it specifically mean opted-in profiles are being excluded?

How are suppressed profiles treated?

The help center documentation doesn’t specify any of this info as far as I could find.

Thanks!

Hey @rebecca.KURU

“Existing profile” means someone Klaviyo recognizes in that browser, not everyone with a profile (contact record) in your account (targeting guide). Klaviyo recognizes people through a cookie, a small file saved in their browser. That cookie gets set after they click a Klaviyo email or submit a form (how visitors get recognized). Shopify checkout can do it too if tracking is set up. Subscription status doesn’t matter, so recognized shoppers who unsubscribed or never subscribed won’t see the form either.

If you only want to hide subscribers, switch to Show to specific profiles in a list or segment. Then exclude (hide the form from) a segment of subscribed people. I’d avoid excluding your main list. People who unsubscribe from a flow email usually stay on it (unsubscribes). Test in an incognito window, since your own browser is probably recognized.

Suppressed profiles (people who can’t get marketing email, like unsubscribes or bounces) follow the same cookie rule. A Klaviyo Community Manager said in 2023 that they still count as existing (thread). I think that still holds, but the Help Center doesn’t confirm it.

I hope this helps and thank you for sharing your question here in the community.
Cheers
Arpit.
