Map Your BFCM Flows Before You Write a Single Word of Copy

Before you write your Black Friday email, map the journey it lives in. Most brands do this backward: write the campaign first, then realize the abandoned cart flow still says "20% off," not "40% off, today only."

At minimum, your BFCM flow map needs four things checked:

  • Welcome series (does it need to pause or adjust for new sign-ups mid-sale?)
  • Cart and Browse abandonment (is the urgency and offer messaging current?)
  • Post-purchase (thank-you plus a cross-sell)
  • Win-back for anyone who almost bought but didn't

The mistake most brands make is treating flows as set-it-and-forget-it. During your highest-traffic weeks of the year, your flows are doing more work than your campaigns. If they're running on default, evergreen messaging while your campaigns scream "Black Friday," you've got a mismatch that costs you conversions.

Give yourself the next few weeks to audit every flow that could be live during BFCM. Note where messaging needs to flex for the sale, and where timing might need to speed up given the volume.

Which flow usually falls through the cracks for you during peak season?
