First Sunset Flow

So I’ve set up my first sunset flow and I’m wondering the following: in the email design I’ve added a button saying “I want to stay!” but I don’t have a link to send them to. So if someone clicks on it, will it still register? I have a conditional split afterwards that removes everyone from the list that hasn’t clicked. So it’s kind of important.

Thank you for posting your questions in the community and great question. I do believe you will need a link in the button in order for the functionality you are seeking to work. In this case, since the button is for someone to stay opted in, I would recommend the button link back to your website, maybe a new products or services page, or a custom LP that thanks for them staying opted in and showcasing the newest items.

How is the conditional split configured? If you are looking to split based on a URL click, then you will definitely need a URL.

Alternatively, you could use the button click to save a profile property. This again, I believe you need to have a URL in the code for it to redirect and save the profile property correctly, but you could use the appended profile property as the condition for the split in the flow.

The conditional split is linked to clicked Email. While I understand linking it to the webpage would be a relatively easy fix, I would assume that sending someone to a product page while they expressed zero intend to want to shop (they just wanted to stay in the newsletter) means they would drop quickly and I’m not sure if Google would see that favourably even if the volume isn’t massive.

Hey @Fly1992,

Totally get your concern here. In your case, I’d probably not recommend linking them to a product/collection page, but rather a page on your Shopify site thanking them for their choice to stay in your list. You would need to create this page on your online store, but this may be your best bet. Additionally, adding a property to their profiles when they click this link will allow you to easily create a conditional split based on whether or not people have this profile property. Guide here on how to update a profile property when someone clicks a link!

having a specialist page might be the move but I’m not the one in charge of our webpage or the WooCommerce store. Any yes they are already getting tagged in the flow, although I’m not sure why they are forcing us to create a tag, then build a segment based on those tags to then be able to suppress the profile. I’m sure it could just be a function you add to the flow, technically at least.

We’ve implemented something similar, but we actually did it the other way round, so the user has to update their preferences if they want to opt out… However, I understand the reasoning for using a “I want to stay” CTA.

One option could be to potentially send them to any blog pages that you have, as it might be a good way to re-engage them. Maybe also target an overlay from the CTA URL saying something like “Thanks for sticking with us, here’s what you may have recently missed”...

Hey @Tom Wood,

I really like the idea of “Thanks for sticking with us, here’s what you may have recently missed”. For now I’ve just added a link to a property change and told them “nothing happens when you click on here, it’s just being recorded”. I think keeping people in that won’t reaffirm their choices is just an overall loss.
