I’m trying to set up a new Klaviyo account but I'm getting an error message, see below. What does “Invalid Sending Domain”mean? I have a start up fashion brand, launching Shopify site shortly selling waterproof Hem Protectors for denim jeans. Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

Hi @SonjayAnn,

May I ask what page you’re on when you see this error? From what you’re describing, it appears as if you’re working on setting up your Branded Sending domain. Is that correct? If so, what are you entering for your root domain, and then what are you selecting your sending domain as?

Or are you seeing this issue somewhere else entirely? Happy to jump in and advise once I have a bit more info!

“Invalid Sending Domain” means Klaviyo can’t verify that you own the domain you’re trying to send emails from.

This usually happens when:

  • The domain isn’t real or isn’t registered yet

  • The sending email doesn’t match your website domain (e.g., sending from gmail.com instead of your brand’s domain)

  • DNS records for authentication (SPF/DKIM) haven’t been set up yet

How to fix it:

  1. Make sure you’re using a branded email like info@yourdomain.com, not a personal Gmail/Outlook address.

  2. Verify that your domain is active and registered.

  3. Go to Klaviyo → Settings → Domains and follow the steps to add the required DNS records in your domain provider (GoDaddy, Shopify, etc.).

Once the DNS records are added correctly, the error clears and your domain becomes valid.
